I'm thinking about trailering up north next summer. Has anyone here fished Vancouver Is.? It seems that the backside (Western) could have possibilities.
Or ---since I have fished some in Sitka (not on my own boat),and it was bitchin, would I be better-off just heading straight there?
fish?: fish?: fish?:

Maybe have the boat and camper up there for a month or so, someplace with launch ramp, campsites, store etc. Probably June-July-when's best? For sure be needing a guide,to get started at the very least.

You should go to Tofino or Ucuelet. They both have great camp sites and all the amenities you will need. If you want to keep the boat in the water while you are there contact Weigh West marine resort Tel (250) 725-3277, Fax(250) 725-3922 Reservations 1-800-665-8922 and do it soon as they have limited slips for non guest boats. They have a good guide service. July and August are normaly the best time for big King's ans Silvers, the Butt fishing is good all the time.

Sweet boat, that's a hell of a halibut! My buddy is moving from Calgary out there very soon, I'll turn him on to the info you gave. Thanks. Good luck up there.

You definitely want to consider hiring a guide or a local to go out with you for at LEAST 2 or 3 days when heading out from the west coast of Van Island...i've lived and fished out of Tofino years ago and it is NOT an easy spot to operate a boat for the unfamiliar...lots of reefs, rocks, sandbars, fog, etc...and fairly sketchy to the unfamiliar...you will save years of trial and error and possibly a lot of headache by hiring a guide for the first few days at least...
