I pack enough tackle to fill the SUV cab, leaving just enough room for fish to take home.

You must keep in mind that when you go past 5 days your options increase. I've seen guys that target wahoo bring bags full for marauders, bombs, & raiders...They leave countless jigs hanging after each use. Also you go beyond the 60lb riigs; therefore, that too increases the amount of terminal tackle you bring....For 8-10 day trips I bring:

(1) 7200 SKB
(8) Rods
(1) Chair
(1) Soft bag for rigging/line/extras
(1) Reel Bag
(1) Duffle for Cothes
(8) Bottles Wine for dinner
(2) Bottles CR shared during happy hour

I think I'm average on stuff to bring, so you the math for 20+ passengers. I store everthing downstairs but, the SKB/Rods/Chair. If I see no spot for my SKB box I don't sweat it. I once stored my SKB box on the top deck, and had more time to rig without rubbing elbows, or getting t-bagged at the rack. Infact, it gave me a good view when ready. The most important lesson here is to provide a clear deck w/o tripping hazards......

I think you are right on the money! I big box and another bag for harnesses, topshots and exta stuff and If you are fishing school tuna I would carry a few extra hooks in an apron belt and you will find you very rarely have to visit your tackle box in a good bite. How many trolling lures (marauders etc.) do you really need. We all are addicted to buying tackle but very rarely would you ever run out. If you did you can buy from the boat or borrow or buy/borrow from another angler. It is more important to bring those extra bottles of cigars, booze and wine!

This is a problem and there is no rules, so it is a free for all.... Let's add folding chairs to the mix... They should not be allowed in the tackle area to trip over and tangle your rods in.... I don't think a 10 rod limit makes a difference, most guys I know don't bring more than 10, but there are not enough spaces to even accomodate 10 each....

Then some guys only bring 6, but they must have at least four in their rocket launchers at the tackle area at all times even when the crew constantly tells everyone not to....

Then there is "the guy" with SKB with or without rocket launchers (acceptable in my opinion), but he can't be happy with that.... he has to have a jig box, and an old milk crate with more rocket launchers.... And then to further make things worse he has so much shit in his room he keeps his reel bags out in the tackle area as well....

The boat crew doesn't do shit about it.... I was on a trip when two of my friends had to keep their tackle downstairs because of "those guys".... Tarro mentioned it a couple of times to "those Guys" and over the speaker, but they pretended not to hear....

Pretty fucked up when someone is such a fuck they don't even care about the other guys on the trip....

"those guys" are often times the "favorites" who fish so much they think they are exempt.
The answer is obvious the Capt. and crew need to address this situation. Which probably is the most annoying problem on any boat. I would like to have numbered spaces and each bag to have a tag for its space. Any extra stuff goes where ever there is room. I just want ONE space (not on the deck) for my tackle bag.

so i think that if someone makes a deposit and pays up front months in advance, and have been planning and waiting that long, bring your toys. the crew will always manage it for them and in our best interest. but it will always be crowded with gear. the boats do not want to go out light and they will always book that 1 extra that they are allowed to book. that is where all their profit is. and they need to be profitable so we can continue to go long range.

I don't think we are forgetting this is vacation.... I think you are missing the point and thinking like this is what causes the problem.

The whole problem is, some people are having their vacation fucked up by guys who think they have a right to take up the entire tackle area with their toys, because they paid a deposit and waited a whole year. Crews do not manage it or this would not have three pages of responses....

As you read these posts you an see many of these guys bring a lot of gear and most of those guys store all the extra shit in their room!

As usual it is only a few that fuck it up for many others, because they paid a deposit and waited months to go on the trip they don't give a fuck about the other guys who paid the same deposit and waited as well....

Spot on Steve, less is more.

The more i long range fish and the more time i spend on these boards the more i realize what an ego trip the whole deal is. Lets face it, spending thousands of dollars on tackle and trips and all the expenses that go with it to catch a "cow" is pretty ego driven. You can catch all the sashimi meat you need on a two day for a fraction of the cost with one or two rigs, and be beat tired after two days fishing, be back home, see your family, and not deal with a bunch of egobrains.

If you are going to bring three tackle boxes, and 18+ rigs all in launchers on the main deck on your three boxes and crates, and be the only guy on the trip that also finds it necessary to have his chair on the porch for the entire trip, then thats really lame.

Anyways, having 25 grand worth of accurates and custom rods doesnt mean you can fish, believe me, it doesnt.

Next long trip i fish im bringing a jig bucket for tackle, one big fish rig, and one wahoo rig. I can pull hooks on cows all day long on one rig. *sighs*

mo tackle = mo problems

It is getting a bit ridiculious trying to negotiate your way thru the forest of rods in rocket launchers and the guys that need to bring the garage along for the ride "just in case". People just need to learn to work together and understand they don't get 3 spots on the top shelf

My cart to load and unload
1 SKB box no launchers
1 reel bag (goes into my room after rigging)
1 tackle bag which I bury on the bottom or under the ladder.
1 pillow cause I'm a pussy
1 duffle bag in my room
6-10 rods depending on the lenth of the trip
1 travel coffee mug
1 BIG bottle of Chaluhla hot sauce

John,

What value does your use of F-bombs bring to the discussion....you could have made your point and showed a bit of class at the same time.

No need to be a vulgarian.....you are better than that.

Good God ladies - take a breath here - frustration and anger is clearly being misdirected.

It is 100% the fault of the crew/office staff for not getting things in order from their first greeting at the dock/office - some guys will be inconsiderate and that's life - some poeple have a good sense and some don't. The operators should simply lay down the law on tackle storage and enforce it OR build better systems/space to accomodate it's passengers so everyone has reasonable access to their stuff

It's your vacation - bring whatever you want...but if your not using/accessing something on a regular basis it would be considerate of you to stow it out of everyones way - real simple.

Jim you are always the wise one....

I am a construction contractor and deal in vulgarity daily. Unfortunately the F bomb is usually part of my daily vocab....

The F-bombs add value or emphasis a message to some and clearly reduce value to the more cultured who choose the more civilized language.... You are totally correct the same message can be made without the F-bomb..... to those who I offend I appologize....

And my extra tackle will be down below!!
