Angry LUPE CLOSED AGAIN...

The Sportfishing Association of California has been working through the Mexican Government to create a process for access to the Guadalupe biosphere on a multi year basis that functioned for both our fleet and the Mexican government. We believed that the issue had been put to bed for 2009. Unfortunately there exists an interpretation of Mexican Immigration law by some that has again denied us access to the Guadalupe biosphere on San Diego based sport-fishing vessels as of this date. Ken has already begun the negotiations in Mexico to create a process for access to the biosphere for 2010 and beyond. This is a complex problem and the Sportfishing vessels of San Diego will work with the Mexican authorities to create a fair and realistic process for all concerned. Please realize that Mexico and the United States are neighbors entwined together by a common border, we need to solve issues so that all parties are satisfied with the end result. Our nations need to become increasingly closer working partners. It will be in everyone's best interest. Thank you for your loyalty, understanding and support to the San Diego fleet.

Where can more information on the closure be found? Is the island just closed to commercial or sportfishers? Are private boats exempt?
Thanks

Closed for the rest of 09?

I am on a 6 day trip leaving 11/01, are you saying that the Lupe will be closed for the remainder of the 09 season and that we are negotiating for 2010?

go get em Mikey!
We hit Cedros on the way back on my recent 7 day, and ended up with lots of yellows, and TUNA under the porpoise just off the island. Go figure... you'll get em even if the Lupe is closed!

When were you there Jack? In the brief period it was reopened?

I would guess the 2010 season is our best bet.

Right, no reason to think that fish isn't still there. The Vagabond and Constitution were having good fishing on straight good grade tuna.

I was there last week. I got lucky and slid in during the open window. Great fishing aboard the String when the weather was down.
