Wind-on topshots for upcoming 10 day trip...

Leaving on the Q105 on 11/4 and want to order some wind-on top shots. How many should I plan on bringing for each pound class (40lb - 100lb) to cover my 10 day excursion?

Also, what size/type of hooks should I get and how many of each? I only have up to 2/0 covered now (owner ringed flyliners & ringed mutu circles). Thanks!

It's great to be able to get in touch with a few key people and get what you need. Guys who've been doing it a long time, sell you what you need and nothing you don't. basil is one of those guys. Tim gives out some pretty good advice, too.

So Heatmiser,
If you don't mind sharing, tell us what your order from Basil consisted of.

I'm going on a fall trip and wondering what and how many to bring. Thanks.

I talked to Basil and am going to get three topshots for each of my line classes. I just need to figure out how long of topshots I need for each of my reels...

I would also bring a 25yrd spool of 40lb, 50lb and 60lb. As I came within about 10 feet of using all of my 50lb fluoro on my recent ten day. It only takes a couple of bad tangles or a couple of brushes with the bottom of the boat to use up your leader material.
I also found myself needing to retie after almost every fish due to nicks and rough spots in the leader.
And if you don't use it just keep it in a cool dark place and it will last a long time.

I've been told not to keep aluminum crimped leaders past the trip! Wow. My leaders that have seen the water, oxidize in the winter. Light or dark. That I should not keep them, but make new ones. So I guess Ill make new ones.
But don't use aluminum crimped units that are showing white aluminum oxide on them next year. BAD MONKEYS. Maybe brass would work. OR, serve your own stuff. Its kind of cool too. Easy to learn...

I've used aluminum crimped leaders several years old. Only discard a topshot once it's been really stretched. Any oxidation on the crimp, alum or brass is only on the surface.
