Unless I'm fishing for dodos or Yellowtail, I only butt hook the sardine. If you can keep the line tight at the beginning you can goose your bait to swim away from the boat faster. Then the light line pressure works.

Guy, thanks for putting in the time on that report and all the pics you posted. Took me right back to my first ever 10 day on the Angler in Ocotber of '05. It was two in a row for me, '05 and then '06 with Monty, Unble Dee, and Sam and the guys. What a great trip. I arrived at the decsion to do that trip after consulting with one of the greatest mentors a guy could have, David Choate. He schooled me on what to expect as far as early trips vs. the later trips. Since I considered myself a hookup whore at the time, I chose the M&M Charter over a November/December trip. At the time, the thought of going days without a bite and possibly not getting a decent tuna at all just did not appeal to me.

We had pretty much the same kind of fishing you guys did. We had pretty good conditions on the ridge and started there, but made out way to alijos for some pretty good grade tuna fishing and a sprinkling of Wahoo. Got my personal best at the time with a 135 by fishing one of those squid on the kite and took a 3rd place 97 pounder the next day on the 50 lb gear. We finished up like you guys did with some great Yellowtail fishing at the South End. Here's a pic of the last three Yellows we got. Rob (Alaska4me) is in the middle. On the left is Papa John Lopez. His son is Captain Ray Lopez.

Yeah, you guys had a great trip, and I too would rather get hooked up than go 0 for the chance at a 200+. But this being my first trip I am still pumped and have Tuna fever bad!!
