I just return from a 6 1/2 day on the Bright and Morning Star, I paid $120.00 plus $5.00 per day for the Guadalupe bracelet. What gives?

Yes, they've dropped the permit charges on trips of 10 days or longer. If the boat fills up, it's a cost to them of $2400 for a 10 day. But for every spot that does not fill, it's a loss of one fare which this year is more than that. I saw the prices for next year's trips on some of the boats are lower or the same as this year. I was very happy to see that the 8 day i just fished on Shogun is going to be the same price next year, but they are taking one more for a load of 26 instead of 25.

Looks to me like all of the Long Range operations are going over the numbers very closely. Responding to supply and demand, some trips that went out lighter than other have lower prices next year. I was also pleased to see that the 7 day june trip I reserved for next year is about $200 less than it was this year. But I was going fishing anyway.

I get from a few conversations with captains and owner operators, that for them, looking at threads like this is painful, as they see themselves and their friends sometimes getting trashed in public. I doubt the pricing changes for next year or the no cost permits this year are in response to anything we've had to say in these forums. The guys I know are pretty smart business men in addition to being great fishermen. The ones who set the prices know it's a pretty touchy economy out there and realize they're competing for the anglers' dollars. Can't remember the last time I got on a boat and was not thanked for my business, and told how much I was appreciated. I've been told a number of times how captains and owners feel the greatest compliment we can give them is by becoming a repeat customer.

I liked the response from Steve K--more of the boats are GRATEFUL whem
you choose them and they should be.

Now for the original question of this post....can we angler get a STRAIGHT
ANSWER on permits??? The fact that there are many responses, by various
people, means we are still looking for the true prices and a lot of us don't
know what they are paying for. W H Y???

THE BOATS SHOULD POST THEIR PERMIT PRICES.. period!!! not that hard.

Not going to get a straight answer because the fleet will never post their "actual" costs for permits. Best to pick a boat that is all inclusive and don't worry about it. That way you know what you paying and if it fits your budget your all set.

The prices for permits has been posted in one of the replies. I won't say where, but someone had the exact figure in their reply. SAC fees and length or tonnage of boats has nothing to do with it.

Go fishing on the boat you want to go fishing on. If you feel like they are screwing you, go on another boat.

Last year this subject came up and a boat owner/captiain posted a response and it was quite a bite different than the answers given above... He said they pay an annual fee based upon tonnage of the boat, and that was it...

These figures above are new this year in the discussion. You might be able to do a search and find results from past discussions.

John,

Do not confuse the Boat permit that the owner needs to get to enter Mexican waters and the passenger fishing permits needed to take fish by paying customer....two separate fees altogether.

I already gave the permit prices....... they were not PFA ( Pulled from Air )

I don't know how to explain it other than what it is.

Are you sure that's Air for A? I think it depends on how crappy the response is

Money is not everything.... I am paying to go on the Intrepid, because of ride, crew etc.... There are cheaper boats, but I like the way they do business and I like the boat. It is comfortable, new, and big!! Thye have a price and that is it, they are not charging me for anything but an all inclusive trip period....
