It was about 2AM - birds were around the boat picking off small bait dipping in quickly and avoiding the squid easily. This particularly bird was just not quick enough or stayed too long on the water. It was pretty impressive and the squid were voracious as usual.
I have seen big BSB and Groupers taken at night at the rocks.
IF the boat is not swinging on the hook, its alot of fun to be up late with a line in the water......you never know what might bite it. Sometimes, the conditions will prevent the deep fishing...
good luck!

In June on the Intrepid, Night time droppers kept the hands busy. Lots of 20-30 with occasional 40-60lb that got everyone awake. Bring lots of 12 to 16 ounce leads to get to the bottom. 60-80lb test to turn the heads. Have fun.

Alijos night bite can be great for yellows, Grouper, amber jack. I wouldn't use anything less than 100lb line. 9 or 10/0 hook 16oz sinker and a big mack or a large strip bait.
