Tie flourocarbon to mono

I keep hearing how great flourocarbon leaders are for tuna for getting bit and abrasion resistance. Can you tie the flouro leader to your mono? If so, what knot works best and how long of a leader do you use? What is the best knot to tie on the hook? Do you match the flouro size to the mono size i.e. 40# flouro with 40# mono etc.? Any help would be appreciated. I am going to Guadalupe on a 5 day in Sept and haven't been for 5 years, so I need an update........

I like to use the uni to uni knot its quick and easy. Their are a couple more complex knots you can use but they are overkill in my opinion. Flouro works very well for line shy fish. Tie on approximatly 15-20 feet of it if you have deep pockets or just tie on 5-10 foot leighnths, this is the way i do it because i like the versatility of being able to tie on lighter leader if so needed. For example say your fishing 30 pnd and the fish are a smaller class and appear to be somewhat skidish of the larger diameter. Take some 15 flouro and tie it on to your 30 in a 5-10 foot leighth and wala your fishing lighter line.

This is just how i do it, you can do it different if you so desire.

Hope this helps...Good luck outhere

Flouro to mono:
I tie 4' of flouro to mono with a Seaguar knot. Easiest knot in the world to tie and works up to 135#. If you are tying flouro to spectra, use 25' to 25 yds of it, and use the uni to uni knot to connect them together. For heavier line like 50# or better, I'd use the Albright knot.
There is a website called animatedknots.com, I think that's what it's called.

Double Surgeons knot or a Seaguar knot is all you need. Both are simple and safe.

Uni-to-Uni on mono to flouro of roughly equal sizes.

Bristol or no name knot on flouro to spectra. 13-turn Bimini in the Spectra, then the tie the Bristol. This knot is bullet proof and very slim.

If your talking mono to flouro the double surgeon is the best. Super easy to tie and makes a nice looking knot. I always use the same size leader as my main line. I use about a 4' section connected to my main line.

If your fishing spectra to fluoro then there are many many more options that depend on your experience level and what you prefer. I have seen from 5' of fluoro tied directly to the spectra...to 10', 25' 50' etc.

Pretty much all the crews in San Diego will be able to dial you in and help you get rigged up.

if you havnt fish spectra you want to consider it. If you arent sure of all the benefits get into your local tackle shop and let the guys show you whats going on with spectra and connections and all the benefits and costs saving.

It may not be for everyone, but most guys on your trip will be fishing with with spectra. Gets bit way better and fishes way better on the long soak, and you feel bites and bumps right away.

good luck

Same here. Seaguar knot and match the line size for each. About 4 foot section or less. Kind of keep an eye on the knot and make sure it's outside of the fishing rod guides so you can cast. Too long of a leader then you get hung up on the cast.

Variation of the Albright without going back thru the main loop. It locks down against the oringinal line thru the loop. Nice knot and slim but I have seen it fail if not cinched down tight and the tag will pull thru.

Keep your connection simple.

Have fun

Keep it simple. Uni to uni or double surgeon. I tie 30 to 30, 20 to 20 etc...
