I'm a nube. Hello.

Just wanted to say howdy for the first time here. I'm a new convert to tuna fishing. I've been a trout/salmon guy all my life (40-somethinerother-cough-mumble years). But, I live in the Sacramento area, right by a good salmon river that has been shut down by the gubment. And, it seems that the trout fishing isn't politically popular, either. I spent many years of my youth on Whidbey Island in Puget Sound and have many fond memories of salmon there. I've been watching this new coastal environmental habitat gubment proposal with great interest...having seen my fishing opportunities dwindle over the years while my fishing license seems to go up in price about 10%/year. (I digress)

So, after several years of my buddy pestering me to join him on a trip on the Royal Polaris I finally buckled and tried out a 3-dayer about a month ago. Man...I loved it! Fishing, in general, was slow but, I had a great time. Still caught 4, including a bluefin (which will probably be entirely eaten raw). The food was great. Crew was great. And, it was just great to be out on the ocean again. I came back feeling 10 years younger. Obviously, I needed the break from being an office slave. Frank drove on our trip and he's a class act.

The meat on these fish is unparalleled. Incredible. Upon my return I acquired an albi rig - Avet reel and Calstar pole. Got those from our trip sponsor - Charkbait. (plug here). I look forward to future trips out of San Diego and maybe some local 1-dayers out near here.

I'm an engineer. Cal Poly grad (love the central Cali coast). And, father of a 4-year old boy. And, if the doc confirms on Monday, looks like a baby's arriving in March. Took my son out for his first fishing outing a couple weeks ago and we put 10 bluegill in the bucket (all released after we played with them). That, as some dads might imagine, was a fishing highlight.

So, good to be here. I've been quietly hanging out here but will be asking questions once in a while so I figured I better say howdy.

Hey Dave, welcome to the site. Lots of hardcore tuna fishermen on here to ask questions of. Look forward to your reports.

Good on you for getting your son out feeshin. Your building memories that he will never forget. My oldest liked it so much he is now a deckhand locally and working on his Captains license.

Oh yeah, here is your official BD welcome

Welcome! There's a suprising number of long-range addicts up here in Sacramento. For fun sometime go check out a shop off Northgate called Pacific Extreme Sports. Very tuna knowledgable, good people.

I look forward to future trips out of San Diego

Another one bites the dust, and a new Long Range Angler is born. Might as well start thinking about how long and how many trips you're going to take next year. Welcome, and it's good to see you hooked like a Cow on a 20/0 Mustad Circle Hook!

And, we have a new angler on the way! My wife and I just found out that we are are due to have a baby in late March. I have a feeling this one's a girl. Saw the heartbeat on the ultrasound screen yesterday. Man, I love kids.
