| Rice Bowl Limited Load 3 dayer. WFO YFT!! July 30th:ffice ffice" /> We started off our 3 day dock side at Fisherman’s Landing watching the return of the Excel, Royal Polaris, Polaris Supreme and Islander before our turn to board the Islander. Chy Huang the Rice Bowl Charters hostess was at the landing providing shots and beers to help kick start our departure. We got on the boat around 11 and prepared our launch for 12. During our two hours of loading bait we got served lunch of chili dogs and pasta salad. Captain Shane provided us with the agenda for the day. He stated that yellowtail and dorado on kelps were what were biting and since the weather forecast looked good, it should be easier to find some kelp patties with the calmer ocean. Shane also recommended fishing 40lb line and the occasional bluefin would need 25 lb line with fluoro due to their line shyness. Bait was mainly sardines with very few anchovies mixed in. Giveaway prizes included several T-shirts and hooded sweatshirts, lures and knives provided by the various generous sponsors. We left Point Loma at around 2pm. We had a 4 o’clock snack of some tasty bluefin poki with white rice and dinner was tasty lamb chops, Lebanese rice, cucumber salad with yogurt dressing. Dessert was fruit shortcake. We were traveling in 68 degree waters. July 31, 2009 Woke up in the morning and started trolling at 6. We were 155 miles south of the Point. We were served a Hawaiian breakfast of eggs over white rice with smoke Portuguese sausage. Lunch was Hot Ruben Sandwich with Orzo salad, and margaritas, dinner Tuscan Herb Crusted Chicken Breast, over rice with Sugar Snap Peas, fresh baked bread, salad and desert. On day 2, we could not have asked for better weather. It was very good steady plunker fishing and at the days end we ended up with 115 Yellowfin tuna, 32 Dorado, 11 Albacore and 9 Yellowtails. August 1, 2009 Few of us awoke early about 4:00 am to some spotty bait size squid. At about 5:15 am Tony Albertson fished a Tady blue and chrome iron and got bent on mostly Blue Fin and a few Yellow fin about 25. Around 6am a steady pick of yellow fin started to develop around the boat as we were drifting. A few of us caught Yellow Fin Tuna in the 22-25 lb class. We then started to troll working up the line back to Point Loma, it wasn’t long before it was full speed heads and they were biting 60# in the corner. Our first patty of the morning, we were wide open on dorado, yellow fin, and yellowtail. The next patty was the same as the first patty with a few albacore and blue mixed in. After basically getting our fill of yellow fin and dorado, we continued up the line looking for blue fin. We hit one school and were able to get a few of them to bite all on the iron. Again I wanted to thank all the great anglers on this trip and the great sponsers for the great items. Hope our next trip in the coming days give us the same type of fishing. |

I knew you guys would do well Fred. It certainly is a great boat, I see why you do your trips there. Always a pleasure to see you, especially on the days you leave with your "Bon Voyage" crew

I'm a long time lurker...first time poster. I felt compelled to let everyone know how much I enjoyed this trip. Fred hooked us up with drinks while on the dock, great accommodations and luckily, some awesome fishing. Fishing was so wide open at times, people were getting bit with 60 lb. I wish more people had done so so we could have brought more fish on board. On a scale of 1-10 I gave this trip a 9. The people on the trip were great, and the vast majority of people on this trip knew what they were doing. It was great mixed bag fishing. Albacore, Blue Fin Tuna, Yellow Fin Tuna, Dorado, and Yellowtail were caught. We rolled up on to this one paddy and I remember seeing a huge school of Dorado hanging out below. It was a sight to see with all the colors in the water. The crew on the Islander were a great group of guys with no egos, always willing to help and accommodating to everyone on board. Definitely, a memorable trip that will be ingrained in my memory. Thanks Fred for being a generous host, and all the swag given to us this year. Gene

Another great Ricebowl charter!!..I had a lot of fun fishing and meeting new people again this year. Fishing was some of the best that I've seen. Everyone got their share of yellowfin tuna and dorado on this trip. Most of the yellowtails caught were the biggest I've seen while fishing the kelp paddies. The crew of the Islander are a bunch of hard working guys that work their butts off to make sure we all catch fish. They are also some of the friendliest people around. Food is always good on these trip as well! Fred puts on a first class charter and he makes sure that everyone has a good time. Can't wait til the next trip! Fred, thanks again for a great trip!
