...BLANCA STRENGTHENS...

AT 800 AM PDT...1500 UTC...THE CENTER OF TROPICAL STORM BLANCA WAS
LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE 17.3 NORTH...LONGITUDE 112.1 WEST OR ABOUT 410
MILES...665 KM...SOUTH-SOUTHWEST OF THE SOUTHERN TIP OF BAJA
CALIFORNIA.

BLANCA IS MOVING TOWARD THE WEST-NORTHWEST NEAR 10 MPH...17 KM/HR...
AND THIS GENERAL MOTION IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE FOR THE NEXT COUPLE
OF DAYS.

MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NOW NEAR 45 MPH...75 KM/HR...WITH HIGHER
GUSTS. SOME STRENGTHENING IS FORECAST DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS.
THEREAFTER...BLANCA IS EXPECTED TO REACH COOLER WATERS WHICH SHOULD
LEAD TO WEAKENING.

I saw the same thing a couple of years back when we were enroute to Alijos Rocks on September 1st. We made it, but we had to duck in behind Guadalupe for a couple days to let it pass. The wahoo fishing was epic at the rocks that year and the water was flat calm.

Sometimes with risk comes great reward...

BTW, Blanca is the second storm of the season- thus the second letter of the alphabet:B.
Andres was the first. It petered out as well, water is still too cold to support a storm coming very far north.
