I remember doing a deck watch manny years ago and their was the guy who was puking so bad it was nothing but bile.So i did a little expierment.I got him at the center of the boat and talked his ear off about fishing for about thirty minutes, taught a few knots showed him what was a good bait and a poor one over and over just kept yapping and not let him think about it.As i was doing this you could see the color coming back into his face he was getting over it ,so i asked him how he was feeling and he looked amazed and said great I'm not sick any more.So i told him not to think about it.....nope ten minutes later he was back at the rail....ever notice that on a tuna trip the sickness never seems to hit anyone in the middle of a hot bite...its 98% controllable with mind control the guy who started this post only sick when the boat stops shows that. He is rocking and rolling the whole time yet the boat stops and bang he is sick.I get that way around april 15th.

Highly recommend scopace. get the pres. from the Dr. i won't get on a boat with out it. Been out on trips for a few days , worst conditions and never got sick. I also use dramameine every 6 hours til i get off the boat. Make sure to eat something with the pill.

I have never used prescription remedies (although there have been some days I wish I had...). My advice:
1. If you take Dramamine or Bonine, start taking it the afternoon before the day of boating/fishing. This gets it in your system and diminishes the drowsiness the day off. The dosage mentioned on the bottle has to be doable for a 12 year old. If you weigh more than 120lbs, take a bit more than the bottle recommends.
2. Avoid being hungover when on the water.
3. Eating: some days it works, others not so much.
4. Beer: having a few relaxes the muscles and reduces the aformentioned anxiety about being ill.
5. Every day is different (mostly varying degress of being hungover for me) and being of sound mind about the issue helps a great deal. There are days I do fine with nothing at all, and I can't attribute this to anything different than me not worrying about it.

Me too, get really sick. And I don't know what took me so long to do it but I finally tried the "patch" (scopolomine) and it WORKS!!! We ghost fished a tournament in the Gulf, stayed on the water for 36hrs with ZERO SICKNESS! It's great stuff. Just need a prescription, unless yoo-no-sumbaadi.
On local inshore stuff I cut thin slices of raw ginger and keep it in my mouth, and give it a slight bite every once in awhile. Replace when mushy and repeat. Works for me, but you really gotta like ginger.
Good luck.

I have an appointment next Friday with my doctor. Not for motion sickness but for a physical. I am going to mention my seasickness and ask him about scopace. I have done a bit of research and this scopace stuff is like a miracle drug for chummers. I never puke when I get sick, I just get very very very very bad nausea. To the point where i just want to shoot myself.

At least that's what I heard.
I never chucked on dive boats, well maybe 3 trips (really rough) out of hundreds, but while fishing I use 1 bonine and I am good.

All the chemical, body attachments, and tummy-balancing notes already provided are really great and most based on personal experience. Let me throw something in from left field. Have your eyesight checked. Motion sicknesses of virtually all types are often eyesight related. If you're in need of a optical prescription adjustment or your first set of spectacles, your seasickness could be eyeball related. My sister went through this for years; couldn't ride in a car on a windy road without tossing up, never made it more than a mile a boat. New glasses corrected everything. Just a thought and something to consider before going through a long list of remedy options. Good luck; nothing's worse than being impaired on the water. For the benefit of others, please let us know what ended up working for you.

I get seasick just looking at water!! Scopace pills are the best. I take one at night before I go to bed. Maybe the first couple of days I might take one during the day. You can slowly wean yourself off of them as you get your sea legs. This works real well on a long range trips. The patches are to intense, they give me headaches, and dry mouth. The pills don't seem to do that, nor do they make you real tired.
