I picked up this book a few years back titled "Heave Ho, My Little Green Book of Seasickness" and getoffmyback is right. It's been proven by doctors to be mostly mental. Back when I was a swab in the USN I knew a couple guys who'd actually start chummin' right after we pulled in the lines to get underway.....
That being said it's still happens to people and it ain't no fun if it happens to you.
Your Zio knows what's up. Ginger works very well. A few years back I was on a three day and it got a little snotty. This little older asian man was just absolutely green and so I gave him 4 of the Sailor's Secret ginger pills.
20 minutes later he was smiling and feelin' great. Catchin' fish and very thankful. I always have some of this Salilors Secret - Home Page and/or some candied ginger in my bag for those fellow anglers prone to mal de mar. Good Luck

Scopalamine pill. The patch is generally an overdose and causes some side effects (cotton mouth, thirst, constipation, drowsiness) that can be avoided. Worst of all, the patch always makes my beer taste funny! The patch (1.5mg) is dosed for a 300 lb. person. I find that one pill at 0.4mg is generally enough for all 185 lbs. of me and doesn't go over the top.

Avoid the pitfalls of the patch (overdose, washing it off in shower, expensive). Get the pill and find out a good dosage for yourself. You can also take it just before you get on the boat and by the time you make it out of the harbor, it is working! Sure beats the 3-4hours beforehand that the patch requires.

As an added note, get your doc to prescribe you a bunch of them and you can share the pills and the cost amongst your friends. Whoever has the lowest co-pay, buys! I just filled one for 100 pills.

try the ear patch (scopalomine i think it's called) you need a script from dr. and always put it on the night before you go out, it takes away the sleepiness and last for a few days. regards, sickfish

Sounds like some magical potion, I will look into that.

Thank you for your professional advice, I will surely look into this.

When I first started flying, I would throw up so hard my balls would hurt, now barrel rolls are no problem.
Also keep yourself well hydrated (not with alcohol) before the trip. Stay away from the exhaust fumes if you can.

All motion sickness are not the same. Being on a boat still gets to me sometimes, but never in an airplane.

Good luck.
I can't stop laughing, fell out of my chair and almost pissed on myself after reading that one lmfao!!

You can buy the band at most drug stores or make your own with a small weight and tape. Doesn't work every time but I have seen more than one guy go from blowin chum to feeling fine using the bands and ginger.

I tried the ginger yesterday, didn't work.

Yeah, my friend always calls me a pussy when we go out, but I just can't handle the sickness. Next time I'll just throw him off my boat and call the coast guard to pick him up

I guess they don't sell the patch at the store anymore? I remember they use to back in the day.
