The Qualifier 105 is a great boat and John Klein is well respected out here in San Diego.
You can't go wrong going on one of his trips. As far a places to stay. Staying in Pt. Loma by the landings is just fine. A step would up would be staying downtown and it's only a cab ride away to the landings.
Good luck, Tony

If you're in the area on the evening of the 16th, it looks like the Qualifier 105 has a 1 day trip for $280. Too bad it's standby for more spots but the Rooster has a 1.5 day departing the 17th.

Qualifier 105,Long Range Sportfishing, San Diego, California, Fishing Baja California

Fishing Schedule

You did not say how much time you have to spend. Could you get away for a few days? If so, a 2-3 day trip would be great. There's a 3 day on Islander departing midday the 17th, retruning the morning of the 20th.

Islander Charters San Diego: Great White Shark Diving, Custom and Deep Sea Fishing Charters, Scuba Diving, Guadalupe Island Charters

Not sure you have this in the right spot. You might check out Clifornia Fishing and then Non BD Charters.

A day and 1/2 gives you a whole day of fishing which means a better chance of getting in them. Qualifier, and Red Rooster III are great boats. Since they are real long range boats they are much nicer with much better accomadations and food that the smaller overnight boats. Here you usually have to go out quite a ways to get to the tuna, 50 60 miles or more.

There are a couple of fish processors here that can process your fish and send it to wherever.

Mid July is a great time for tuna. I wouldn't miss this opportunity since you are going to be in the neighborhood. Oh, BTW these boats can loan you all the equiptment you need or will rent it to you for reasonable prices.
