David, what's the best canned tuna? Is it a matter of hooking up with the guys at Fisherman's Canning?
"The rest goes to 5 Star, they are the best."
Since the first time I used Five Star, I've never looked back. Great service, superb quality. Had a dinner last night that included a nugget of Bluefin from a 7 day last June. I wish I had eaten it while it was fresh, but it was still in good enough shape to blow away the kids who came over. | The best bet for the ultimate canned tuna is to have 5 Star process it, and then can that yourself.
That's not going to heppen at this kid's house, but Rick X Man sure styled me out with some prime home canned.
Next best choice is trade the popsicles for canned albacore from Fisherman's Canning. I take a lot of grief for that some some know-it-alls, but I have tried all the store bought (except Jack Webster's, which I'm sure is also very good) cans, and Sean's product kicks ass. My family won't eat any other kind. I have some of his gourmet smoked canned wahoo that makes a caesar salad to die for
We too, had fish last night I caught in June last year, had 5 Star process it, and it was superb. The gift that keeps on giving.

[QUOTE=wahoodad;1325832]The best bet for the ultimate canned tuna is to have 5 Star process it, and then can that yourself.
I use Mario but David is right the home canned stuff on a completely different level. My buddy has three giant pressure cookers. Each batch cooks for 100 minutes and another 10 or 20 minutes before you can pop the lid and reload. Mason jars , 1/2 tsp kosher salt , a bit of belly meat, cap and cook. We crank out 20 - 30 cases every trip.
After you have the home cooked stuff it makes you wonder what happened to the stuff you get in a can. It's a bunch of work but we enjoy it all year. The fresh frozen stuff goes bad pretty quick in the freezer.

5-Star all the way. Living in SC, I have to have them fly it back typically a few days after I get back home and I'll say they're very particular about getting YOUR fish - number tags are in the boxes. I run my stash out through the year and even after a year, it's still great. Surprisingly its not too expensive to have it flown out on NW Airlines 4 boxes at 220# last year ran about $65 / box. Well worth the $$. Leaves SD in the AM, arrives at my airport that evening and Sarah is great with coordinating and working out all the details.

| Five Star Hires Trash?
I don't know anything about how well Five Star prepares fish, but when my fiance made a routine business call to their office today she was greeted by a man on the other end who called her an Idiot and a C*nt and hung up on her multiple times.
Naturally, I'm pretty upset about the whole thing because she was really shaken up from it and crying.
The funny thing is that it looks like two women run the company, so it shouldn't take much work for me to get this guy fired. I'll also be sure to post his name on here once I find out, so that no one hires this d*ckless retard as a crew member. right here buddy- I hope you enjoy job searching during the recession =).

I feel for you being pissed if someone talked to your lady like that. Then again, if he had to hang up on her multiple times and she kept calling maybe she had it due? If she is in a job that makes people re-act this way she needs to grow a pair and quit the crying BS. Dunno, again you left alot out there.

You all know we don't answer the phone during business hours! ! Kinda busy processing all the fish you guys have caught. Either Melanie, Erika or I make the call back after we are finished with "Same Day" processing. Help me out on this one! How many of you have actually called and received a real person, let alone a guy? Sounds fishy to me. May have happened, and will get to the bottom of it! Hate to see anyone upset about us.
PM me if you get the full scoop. I will check into it for you. Someone may be in the corner with the dunce cap on next week. But I hope it was all a complete misunderstanding, maybe the wrong number.
Yikes,
Sarah

Had to be a wrong number. But, why keep calling back multiple times? That part is a bit funny. I can just see how this was playing out at this person's home:
Fiancee: Honey, these people are rude and keep calling me names.
Ryan (magikarp): Maybe you should call them back (and let someone "else" call you names).
