Just a little side note about the kind of people who run 5 Star...
About a year ago I posted a thread about a hit and run driver who smashed in my tailgate on my truck while parked in a parking lot while I was in watching a movie with dear old Mom on Mothers Day. A good samaritan witnessed the incident and followed the offending party out of the parking lot while calling the police to report the license plate of the Hummer that hit my vehicle. It was through this individuals actions that ultimately caused the lady driving the Hummer to be caught and be responsible for the repairs to my vehicle.
As a result, I received a unsolicited PM from Sarah at 5 Star who wanted to do something special for the good smaritan by sending the individual a care package of goodies from 5 Star but unfortunately for that individual he wished to remain anomymous.
Sarah did not know me from Adam, and certainly did not know the good samaritan who had helped me, but nonetheless she made the offer.
I do not know about you, but that is the kind of company I would want to do business with and speaks volumes about the kind of individuals who work there.

thanx for the info guys!!! | I can't imagine they won't be at the landing to meet the boat but I can't hurt to call them the week before to make sure. I leave on the 27th on an 8 day and they've always been there when I'm checking in. At that time of the year, the landings are running full speed with boats coming and going just about daily. good luck on your trip-great time of the year to go......

Please either email or call me before your trip. This helps us plan for the day and will get you processed more quickly. I start to write names down on my calendar and have a first come first served policy. When we get slammed down at the docks, it is hard for me to choose who is processed first. When I have you in my books, and it looks busy, I can have an extra fish cutter called in and have a larger crew to get you all out as quickly as possible.
We usually go down to the docks not knowing if we will be busy or slow. If you call or email in advance, we will be more prepared!

It isn't about the money. It's about the great attitude and service. You guys deal straight, friendly, and honestly. Sure, at the landing it can be pretty chaotic. With everyone at 5 Star it's always a smile, and they're always patient with us.
I am a customer, and your whole group makes me feel that way.
Call it old school.
Excellent work, and an excellent work ethic.
Thank you.

Hi Sarah ~
It stokes me to see so many positive responses to yours and Andys business!!
I grew up with Andy, and occasionally spent some time with him, John Watson, Roger Carlin as well as a few others who would go down and collect Abs and lobster during the minus tides in LJ. John and Andy were animals at doing this & had it wired. I also was fortunate enough to do a few swordfishing trips with Andy & his pops Laurel on the old stick boat "World Famous"........ those were great times that I will never forget, and I tried to always learn something from Andy or his dad.
One of the funny things I remember to this day is when we were swordfishing and looking all day, and when things seemed slow Laurel would take out a quarter, make a fist and place it over his thumb and flip the quarter into the water for luck! But he strictly told us kids that if that quarter hit any part of the boat before going in the water it meant bad luck!
I drop off my daughter at school many mornings near your guys house, and many times I take the side street back home (I like those streets and I am always hoping to see a house for sale that I could afford - Yeah Right ) and drive by your place often.
Those were good times & great memories in my life, and I hope you, Andy and the family as well as Laurel and all the rest of the Saraspes are doing great!!

I truly believe in the quarter thing. I had one of my employees throw a quarter in the bay last year when it was slow fishing- the next day was the beginning of a fabulous season! The fish hit so hard we just couldn't believe it. Anything for luck!

Does anyone know if 5star will do special cuts like sashimi cuts or if there filleting is so damn good that you can just eat their fillets sashimi style?
Does anyone make requests for the cheek section of tuna or yellowtail. There is some meat there that is just too good to pass.

"Some don't think it's a good idea, but I trade my popsicles for cans, as well as any fish that don't look prime 1A."
David, what's the best canned tuna? Is it a matter of hooking up with the guys at Fisherman's Canning?
"The rest goes to 5 Star, they are the best."
Since the first time I used Five Star, I've never looked back. Great service, superb quality. Had a dinner last night that included a nugget of Bluefin from a 7 day last June. I wish I had eaten it while it was fresh, but it was still in good enough shape to blow away the kids who came over.
