WOW, things sure have changed since I used to fish long range...

Back then, we used to just take the frozen fish to a fish market in Redondo and they would give us $0.75 to $1.50 per pound in the round depending on what we had.
All we had to do was take the tags off before we made a delivery...

I'll also put in my plug for 5 Star.

Do like Choate said - it is very easy when fishing for pelagics in tropical waters to bring home way the fuck more than you can eat in five years. Be realistic about how much you eat, how much you can give away (keeping in mind that it costs money for you to give away fish), and the quality of the fish you bring home.

If you are lucky enough to be standing in parking lot at 7am with 100's of pounds of fish, or even one every large one, the .75/lb will seem like a deal

What Wahoodad said. Frozen, I trade for cans. Probably the best canned tuna there is. Not the best trade but...... RSW to Five Star. Just had some RSW/Five Star Yellow Fin Tuna caught in Oct. 08, yesterday. Good as gold. The alternative is to build a large fish box for the truck, load fish and a whole bunch of ice, take it all home and do it yourself. This can take days and days. Dig a deep, big hole for the guts. Vac all night long. Been there, done that...and I have a backhoe. Believe me, Five Star is the way to go.

Yes. There is in fact a place that provides the same quality and service as 5 Star, and its actually cheaper... but no one bothers to use it because we like to throw money away.

Ok, ok, I'm done being a dick. Seriously speaking, there's nothing better out there. $0.75/# is CHEAP for what you get. Anything cheaper you either sacrifice or RISK sacrificing quality, service, and convenience. Seriously. Spend the extra few dollars. Its worth it.

My vote for 5-Star, Sarah & the crew do a great job. With that said it is real easy to bring home more than you can eat in a year. With 2 teenage boys in the house we eat fish 5-8 times a week. That works out to about 100lbs, in meal size packages. The rest is traded for cans, or donated. We started pressure cooking this last year, that works out great you might want to try it.
