Super Cows continue

It looks like the AA has a 375# and the Intrepid has a 325#, 305 and one near miss at 298. The Intrepid might have to add a trip to satisfy all the free trips they're giving away. The AA's 375# could push
the 381# that was caught back in November on the RS for fish of the year honors except the AA has an on board scale, so it's fairly accurate. So my question is "why so many super cows on the lower banks and not the HB". Over 18 plus years I've been doing this type of fishing I've definitely seen and heard about more super cows being caught the past few years on the lower banks than all the years at the HB. Food type, open water fish, time of year/water temp, closer to Cabo nite life? Opinions? Facts? Inquiring minds would like to know.

Im just speculating but the fish at the HB are subject to regular siener action. Down on the lower banks, the schools of fish are much smaller and more scattered out. This may contribute to the size difference. Also, these larger fish may have something to do with the closure of the Reviligigedos as well. Who knows?

warmer water at the bank, increased metabolic process, just my guess.

Jay,
Great idea for a thread start. Maybe on some of the wide open HB bites sticking a tagg or two in might be helpful. I had an unbelievable experience down there last year. I would hope that we as sportsmen would hope to do all we can to preserve the fishery south of the border. Turning a blind eye to the big picture is the easy way out. Look at what the hunters (DU) did. Maybe we as longrangers can agree to disagree, get together, and make something happen. What (it) is, I have no idea. Ok, I lied, lets kill a bunch of birds with one stone and annex Northern Baja, declair it and all waters within 600 miles a sanctuary only open to research, and full on sportfishing, along with regulated commercial fishing. Think about it bro, it will be there forever, as opposed to? I'll let you figure that one out. At the very least we may be able to save a few innocents from getting their heads chopped off and displayed. To answer your original question!!!. Maybe they leave in small groups from the Bank and surrounding areas and migrate around a bit and end up in Cow Town the next year, one year older and wiser. Cheers

The R.Star had a scale on board when i was on it.
was whipped out a bunch of times including weighing the 357# YF caught by Dave Hall almost this time last year in Mag Bay.

And they still have today to fish for a few more!

It's funny how the ones over 250 don't get much attention when the supercows are caught.

I'm sure we'll see some ones just under 300 too!

Go get some more!

Nal I didn't mean to say that the RS didn't have an on board scale. I've fished the boat and know they do. I guess what I was trying to say is that their fish grew in weight from the original report on the boat to when it was weighed at the dock. I think Randy wanted to be a bit conservative. I was applying that logic to the AA's fish to mean it may be bigger when it weighs in at the dock also. No harm intended.

hey jay,
no problemo. i know the scales are not cheap and even cost a few nice dimes to calibrate, just wanted to be clear that the RS had theirs isn't afraid to use it. Don't know why every LR boat that targets cows or participates on trip jackpots doesn't have one. Not to sound like i'm bashing Intrepid, but i gotta wonder why not.

Hey Spike, you got a lot of experience down in cow country. What's your take on the size difference. We're talking fish here.

How the hell do you get .5 /.6 /.8 using taping as a scale substitute? Must be working on their cold fusion formulae while traveling
