Hey long-range vets, I'm thinking about a GF760M - roller guides mated up with a Newell 631 with the 3.6:1 gears. I'd like this rig to be useful on a 5-6 day trip to Cedros or the Lupe. I can troll albies and fish Yellowtail's on a dropper loop with such a set up I hope. Yes, money is a bit of an object, and I can't quite justify the HX. Status - rookie.
I don't even troll local waters with 60#. I fish 80# and up just here in San diego waters

60lb can be light for the yellows on the dropper at times. Even some of the most experienced guys loose their share to the structure with 60. I would use 80lb main line. You can always use a floro-carbon leader if you need to.

I don't like the large Newels for bottom fishing. Cranking on the little handles they have wears on you after a while. If price is a concern go with the old Penn 6/0. By the way I love and prefer Newels for everything 50# and below.

I would agree with Pangamaster, these are really good points.
60 Lb is great for cedros but if you go to the lupe.. dont drop in 60 for the yellows unless you want the guy next to you fishing with 80 to retrieve your hook and broken line
