I fish almost exclusively Calstar. I have caught my share of fish, big and small with them. I recently was looking at the Super Seeker cow rods. I really like the more parabolic action. Besides it will be easier on my back, I think it will also decrease the chance of a hook pull. Having said that, I do not like the weight of the Super Seeker blank. For me it is way too heavy. I recently built two Calstar BTG6465XXH to fish on my 10-day trip. I found them too heavy as well and ended up giving one to my fishing buddy and sold the other to another angler. I guess I will be stuck with my Calstar graphfigther. Just my two cents......

Mas, Rail wrap is more of a definition than a trade mark product. In the past few years, many rods were coming back from LR tuna trips with the Hypalon destroyed. To combat this, many custom rod builders started using materials that would stand up to the constant pressure of a rod placed on the rail during the fight.

The material near the butt of the rod is fairly firm.. with the material just in front of the reel more flexible than the butt end, but not as soft as Hypalon (The foamy stuff we know so well on roads today. Some rod builders use tuna chord in front of the reel as well.

A rail designed rod has a lengthened piece just in front of the reel again just for the application of use on the rail.

Cal's store is located 2050 E central Evenue - Duarte CA, 91010
626-357-4441. There are many great rod builders.. but in my humble opinion, Cal's work is second to none on reels. Though there are many machine shops trying to copy Cal's work.

If you go the the Long Beach Fred Hall show.. stop by and chat with Cal. You will see why his reels are the standard many try to follow. Cal is about 200yrs old :-) and still fishes today for the big fish where ever they might be. His machine shop is located in an industrial area of Duarte and is quite impressive. Call him on the phone, describe what you are thinking of.. see what Cal has to say. May be helpful to you.

good luck
