| WIND ON LEADERS
I am going to be going on a 10 day trip leaving Dec 26 on the Indy and wanted to know if you fellow anglers have used wind on leaders from Basil (BHP) tackle and if you've had success. I met him at the Fred Hall show in LB nice guy and liked his method without using crimps.

Basil makes the best leaders out there...
Even better than mine.
Tell him what you want and he'll hook you up.

I'm making my own now, but another place for wind-ons is Jak Associates who make Kona style wind-ons. Modrealtor turned me on to these last year and we both used them to good result. One of their 100# Yozuri Hybrid leaders landed my 241#er, and later a 273#er back to back, same leader and hook, both were brutal fights. JAK Associates makes Kona Style wind-on leaders and top shots for the serious big game angler |

I make my own hoping someday I can get one to turn out almost as good as a Basil.

I've been building wind on leaders for close to twenty years(dacron days) and still can't make them as clean as Basil.

I am taking a bunch of his leaders on my upcoming trip. I have used them
in the past, and they are the best. My only complaint is that his loop will
not pass through his leader spool. It makes for an odd connection. I have never had one fail though. His store is closed until Dec 12th. You better
order right after he opens. He offers several lines. The only one I don't like is Soft Steel. It didn't hold up to the cow challange.
BEST OF LUCK.

jrseagar, you can pull on the loop and it will open up. Once you pass the loops through each other 3 times you can work the loop back down to it's original size. Hope that helps....Wayne

Andy, for the 'what's it's worth' department: I had 2 brand X wind-ons where the 100# floro slipped 3" (out of the braid) after several pull hard/slack off cycles on the floro end. I am retiurning these & 6 others to the to the vendor. I did side by side w/Basil Pappas' TS's w/no slippage.
Update: - pulledon 5 more of Brand X';s - all slipped some but not as bad as the 100#. Good luck!

I have used them for the last 4 years. They have been 100% reliable. His top shots are the gold standard.
Basil is a great guy to work with also.

I went "one off" with Basil a few years ago as I prefer to fish tuna on fly. I wanted a few "meat line/teaser rigs" but not a true "top shot", and after a phone discussion with him to confirm what I wanted, his product still goes in every blue water trip I make!

I don't use anything but Basils wind on leaders. Expensive but I've never had one fail. Plus if you call him or E-mail him he is right there...very good tackle...very very good
Good Luck, Jeff

I know Basil is the standard for top shots.....however, I had one of his explode at the serve and lost a big tuna because of it. I would learn how to make your own so if you have a tackle failure, at least it's your fault.
