10-Day Goals...

With the COWS still a little out of 10-day range I figured a quick poll was in order:

1. Mixed bag - Typical 10-day no trophy fish expected.
2. All or nothing. Make a run all the way to the banks knowing full well it will be feast or famine and could turn into a 10-day boat ride.
3. I'll go with the majority.

I would suggest that one let the captain make the choice.. They are true professionals whose experience should be trusted.

Making a run to the HB on a 10 day is a huge risk... The bank can be corroded with sharks and or totally dead (frequently).. of course there is the chance that the tuna will be up on the bank and biting... it is very hit and miss.

That is the reason the longest trips are the ones to fish there.. They can wait out the bite... I have seen it dead for 6 days, then turn on for a day, then dead again.. all it takes is a swing in the current and it can go either way..

Also, if you are at the bank on a 10 day and the fish bite on the iside, you don't have the time to make the run...

I would call it risky at best.. but sometimes people do it and get lucky...

The fish are either on the HB or they are not... it is picky most of the time, dead at others, and for a small percentage of the time.. it is epic...

tight lines.. Jeff

Certainly... I think that goes without saying... I guess I am more trying to find out how many of us are really focused on getting that cow. I guess if I wanted one that bad I would schedule a later trip or beg the wife so I could do a 14+...

Ohwell I guess we can all dream....

Variety for me

We did the Hurricane bank last year on the RP on a 10 day...It paid off but that was a lot of riding for 2.5 days of fishing..I'm leaving again in a week and a half on the same trip and hope we go for the variety but I will go with the majority..

If you booked a ten day for before Thanksgiving, you booked a mixed bag trip (2005 notwithstanding).
If you want a ten day trip that's really cow oriented you should book a later time. If I were going out now I'd be VERY unhappy to spend all that travel time on a Quixote like quest.

No, I have to disagree with that. If you booked an early 10 day trip up to November 5th, you want variety. History has shown the big fish and less variety from November 15th and on ten dayers. The Shogun and Searcher were doing fly down fly backs in the late 90s for this exact reason. That's why my trips leave then. My name should be Moodad, not Hoodad

simply CLEAR THE HEAD, forget about your troubles and have a great time - I personally prefer to catch a few biger fish - but the Cap is the boss and I will always trust that he is looking out for our best interest

That is why I went on a 11 day trip this year and got my first cow. It went 219.8 and I got it at the Hurricane Bank.

It was not an easy catch by far. It took 3 heart breakers of the same size or bigger fish before I landed that one.
