With the COWS still a little out of 10-day range I figured a quick poll was in order:
1. Mixed bag - Typical 10-day no trophy fish expected.
2. All or nothing. Make a run all the way to the banks knowing full well it will be feast or famine and could turn into a 10-day boat ride.
3. I'll go with the majority.
It seem like this is 2 questions. What are your 10 day long range goals ?
And if there are no cows would you go to say the islands or HB almost for just a couple days fishing.
Please remove my vote because I think I voted incorrectly. I would vote for just trying to fish the mag area. If nothing so be it. It's fishing. And at least they tried. This is very notable to me.
If "no trophy fish expected" I would not even go period. I could go on a 5 or 6 day for that. And have lots of fun a guadalupe island.
It depends on the group goals really . Just hope you get a group with similar goals as yours. And captain too.
AA ten day 12-26-07 to 1-5-08. 304, 314, 15 over 2, lots over 1. many other Yellow Fin Tuna. Son 184 dad 190, wonderful trip on a great boat. John Haskins with 304, he weighs about a buck fifty. Son on the rail, old guy high stickin. Getting ready to clean them. Go with the flow and the rest will take care of it.
Frank, those are some nice fish, congratulations. But your trip is hardly relevant to the question presented here. It's about this particular time of year when the cows are not yet on the chew on the Lower Banks. Clearly they were on your trip.
I voted to go with what the rest of the kids want to do. Mostly that includes the captain, and there's only one steering wheel. I'm sure that trips departing this week will gove the Lower Banks a look, but to spend four days trying to make the fish bite would frustrate the hell out of me. Trust the captain to go find the fish, wherever they may be.

Don't know what boat you were on, it wasn't the American Angler. All Jackpot fish were over 200 with a 305 on the kite and Ray Sandoval handed off a fish that weighed in at 314. Check out this link and go to Saturday Jan 5, 2008. American Angler Fishing Reports
