10 Day Objectives... What are your Longrange goals?

With 10-day season upon us and the cows still pretty far south, what would most prefer?

1. Steady pick of mixed fish.
2. All or nothing. Make a run for the banks and hope for the best. Two days of WFO fishing or a 10 day boatride...
3. I'll go with the majority of the class...

Me? I'm an all-or-nothing guy for sure...

Each year is different. On a good cow year I agree roll the dice. If the hurricane bank and cowtown south of Mag bay both have been consistently dead you are asking for heartbreak. Also trust the advice of your skipper. Just my 2 cents.

These 10 dayers were pretty much set up to reach to the southern banks off Baja. It's only been since '05 that the Cows were caught. On a 10 day, I personally would like about 7 days of variety fishing for wahoo and tuna @ Alijos, Yellowtail @ Cedros, kelp dorado offshore, maybe some inshore rock cod, grouper, and calicos, and whatever else comes along. I've been on 1 10 dayer (Shogun in '06) and lots of 5, 7, & 8 day trips. I never get tired of catching such a beautiful variety of "smaller"-yet challenging fish.It give me an opportunity to try out the 14 rods and reels that I would take as well as all of the terminal tackle --jigs, bombs, hooks, etc. If I was just going to the Hurricane and after cows, then I certainly wouldn't need all my "stuff". But--it would be a real crapshoot as to whether I'd catch many fish or fish more than 3 or 4 days. I personally think that if one wants to specifically target cows, then go on a 12(not many of those)-14 dayer.
I leave on the Intrepid on 11/15. I know a lot of the guys on our trip want to focus on the big cows. I will be ready for them, but my druthers are to catch (and release) lots of fish and to fish lots of days. Wouldn't it be nice to have it all? A mid Nov trip might just do it.

I'd be happy either way. A variety is nice, but catching cows is fun too. Lowell, I'm on the trip right after you. Either way, I'll be ready!! As long as we don't have to worry about those "pesky" marlin..... I'll be happy!!

I'll be happy either way. But I guess I'd rather have scratch cow fishing. Than scratch Island hopping.

the ten dayers in december have no other choice, the water has cooled off and Mag bay is the only choice unless they grow balls and go to the Hurricane. last ear in the december the cows didnt show up for me and we didnt have any options... their is no choice for the variety..

The LR goals I have yet to attain are a cow Yellow Fin Tuna and a HOO...... I would be willing to take the risk but I would not be against the majority if the decision went the other way..... And decided to not make the run to Hurricane Bank....

Thats the real nice option of LR fishing. You can make plans for a all spicies trip or just one specific trip. Summer months a nice 8 day trip for all around fishing then later that year for a chance at cows. Winter go for some bottom fishing cpl days and you have rounded out the entire year. Leaving on the Interpid Nov 15 for 10 days in search for some larger size Yellow Fin Tuna. So mentaly geared for just that. A long ride..

be prepared for what can be a long boat ride..
last year on my trip i think i fished for a total of 4 hours... and it ended up being at alijos to luckily find small yellowfin.
their is no choice. only the choice of Mag bay or the Hurricane..
