Fishing line type/color @ Lupe

I was wondering if line color is really important @ Lupe. People told me to use a blue colored line.
I would usually use Izorline XXX clear for bait and iron.
I throw iron on it and fish would usually strike due to their instinct.
And when it comes to bait I usually top shot with floura.
So does the line color really come into play out there?

thanks all

Depends on who you ask...

Flouro makes a difference there... I saw a guy last year use green line and gold hooks get picked up when most everyone else was blanked.

Long soak normally but this year might be different.

40# is what you want to use minimum.

Just got back Monday from 5 day on American Angler. Go all spectra to 15 ft of floro 50lbs top shot. These tunas are very finicky. You have to long soak probably 150yards from the boat. Spectra helps your bait swim more freely.

That is what I used sept. 14-18. Only thing I would add is my best 3 fish came on butthooked, lime green dines that went straight down!

Long soaks mean the boat is in a long drift. Bait builds up under the boat.

Also..get into the water ASAP after the trollers clear to a side!

Small two speeds and short-top shots

Bruce Smith has an interesting and informative article on the Shogun Site:

Shogun Sportfishing - Current Conditions

Looks like Shelly. Nice Fish!

Fishing was different this year! Good bye was the all day soak on the hook. We were running and gunning, hunting for schools all day long. Drifting, dropping baits and catching a hand full each pass. Some of the other long range boats tried it the traditional way, anchored up on their old spots. They got 4 fish to our 50.

As for line, I use a 30 yd top shot of mono. I use Ande Line pink or clear. I have been known to use Izor blue, only because they had it on the American Angler. I can get bye with 40 pound, but do not recommend it unless you have the experience and the best of rods and reels to keep the odds in your favor. Also, using lighter lines will always mean your fish will be in the water longer, no matter how good you think you are, and therefore more chance of getting taxed! You know what I mean.

Bites are far and few. You can play the long soak game or you can play the hot dean on the corner when they are boiling trick. Both will work. I choose to stay away from long soaks with lots of line out there. Too easy to end up in tangles.

Enjoy!
