advice for 1st time to the Lupe on a 4.5 trip

Well I lucked into a 4.5 day trip to gaduallupe island on 21 to 25 Oct. I have a 20, 30, 40, 50, and 2spd 60 rigs already (I just had all the rigs respooled with fresh line and I went over all my reels too). I some rapalas and tuna clones and other trolling rigs. Also have hooks covered from #2 to 6/0, additionally I have lead up to 8oz. Also got plenty of heavy iron for yo yo action. What else should I look into for this trip?

I am so stoked, the time can not go by fast enough till I get back out on the water.

My name is Jay and I am a fishaholic!!!

Lupe can be known for the "long soak" so spectra and a shorter top shot for the bigger rigs would come in handy and also a few 16oz weights in case the current is ripping

Good Luck

Mot's, Thank You...

I got back to the good old USA 2 weeks ago, yeah!!! It feels soo good to be home again, the past 8 months was very hard on my wife and kids. I have been trying to be a good husband and father so I have not been out fishing yet. While in Iraq I recieved orders to for New Orleans, I am due to report no later than 1 Dec. Tommorow I am flying down to La to look at some homes and make a offer on one. My mother flew out here to visit and she is going to watch the kids while my wife and me go down there to go home shopping and some alone time Me and two long time friends have already planned for a trip already out of Veinice La in Feb time frame. I was suprised at the cost of a tuna trip down there, up to 4 people all day on a 26 cat for $900, all inclusive minus booze. They run typically 10 to 40 miles for the big tuna and Feb is the prime time to go out and chase the big ones. Things have been going really well for us since I have been back, buying our first home (you would be suprised of the prices of homes down there in La), kids are doing great in school, going on a 4.5 day trip before I leave Cali (my I love me gift after 8 months in hell). Life is really good right now and I can not complain one bit, hell anything beats being in Iraq.

jay-

thanks for coming back from that shitbox (iraq) without a hole in yer ass!! nads of steel my friend!

i think you got the majority of stuff covered....and as banman stated, the place is LEGENDARY for the long soak...spectra is a really, really good idea. the only thing i would add would be some floro carbon for the scratch bite and the heavier weights. also- one of the *cute* things i bring for this island is LARGE fresh frozen squid in the 2-4lb class (available at many asian food stores). i bring about 20 lbs or more of these and fish them on the kite (they may ask you to *share* with everyone if the bite is good), or the drooper looper. great kite bait, great Yellowtail/BSB bait. give em to the crew when you board so they can store them for you.

on a 4.5 day trip, you will either end up at the lupe or benitos/cedros (if the lupe fishing was bad)....those yo-yo irons are invaluable at benitos/cedros. you could also end up offshore chasing schoolie Yellow Fin Tuna, so bring some "1 day" light gear just in case. no need to overgun for this place...i think you got it covered!

You sound good to kill some fish. The bite has been pretty good on the 40 pound.I would add some floro, incase they are a little picky.40 pound and maybe some 50 pound floro.Have a blast and that you for your service. My son got back around three weeks ago, God bless you guys.
