Name: Jeff Stephens Age: 51 Vessel: Shogun Location: Orange County Job:Carpenter | I use a Seeker Black Steel 6463XXXH on my SDS 50. It has worked great two seasons in a row for tuna over #200. A great rail rod for #130 test. JMO. |

I think the next one I get will be a 6463XXXH that is uncut...full length at around 6'8". This gives you just that little extra when the death spirals start and you clear the hull of the boat. Some of the guys on my last 10 day had the longer version and it was amazing what 6 more inches could do.
When I got home I told my wife that I was going to get a rod that was 6 inches longer and she got all excited.......I didn't know she liked fishing that much

3X or 4X? And that sounds custom, who do you have in mind?

Name: Steve Age: 59 Vessel: 18' Bayrunner Location: Bishop Job:Freelance Exhibitionist | Yes, longer seems to be better for the rail. I'm in the process of lengthening the butts on my 40, 50, 60 and 80 lb rods that I built several years ago so I can use them more effectively on the rail. I built them all with 8" hypalon butt grips and gimbals. I'm adding about 3-4" and finishing them off with rubber butt caps, no gimbal so I have a little more to tuck under my arm. So a little more in the butt is better for me anyway and then that extra length on the rail really helps keep the line off the hull at circle time.

LMFAO!!!!! | Oh shit, here we go! Jim's got his buddy Mark for a roommate again this year and I am in with one of the nicest guys and best anglers you'll ever meet, Bob Chapman, "Chappy."
Our rooms are across the hall from each other for sharing of cups, ice, gin, tonic, tequila shots and other important provisions. Iron elbow stikes again!

I have a super seeker 63xxxh. Seekers tend to run a little long, so it actuall is a little over 6'5"
Many longe range opinions have been leaning to the longer rods for that little extra length....

JMO. | Yup, I borrowed a friend's 6463XXXH for a 13 day trip and caught one on that, and also caught a kite fish on another friends 6463XXXXH with an Avet T-RX 50. It seems kind of long, but the guys are right, when they get into that death circle at the end the extra length is a huge help. It also helps when they get up closer to keep the line from scraping the boat... its just a little bit further out and gives you a little more space to get those last few cranks in without scraping the line on the hull....
The 4X I was using also had a section where there's no hyperlon on it, so it slides along the rail easier.... It was specifically made for fishing the rail...
