Loop to loop connections

I am planning to fill all my reels with spectra, then run short top shots of flouro (10ft or so)

I have little understanding of line to line connections, but my plan was to use some sort of loop to loop set up. I know most tie a bimini twist or plait a double on the spectra side, but can I do the same on the flouro line? I have seen wind-on leaders for sale, but I would like to buy spools and build mulitple leaders ahead of time.

So the question is, what method can I use in the flouro to create the loop?

you can use the same methods as you would use for regular mono.

Hollow spectra with the floro inserted about 4 feet up inside and either crimp with SATO crimps or SERVE with floss. The hollow spectra doesnt care what its clamping down on.......


Im sure other more knowledgeable tackle ho's will chime in....but thats how I do it.

I am using braided power pro, not hollow.

I just want to tie loops on both line-types and join them. Just want to make sure I am using the best connection method for flouro and braided spectra.

Here is an illustration of the loop to loop Loop to Loop Connection :: BHP Tackle . You then need to connect the mono or fluoro. Most serve or crimp. I serve mine. This year i'll try wahoodads nail knot method.

OK, so you tie a bimini in the end of your solid spectra and then you have ONE of the loops for your loop to loop connection.

Or............... add 50' of hollow to the ned of your spectra for top shot connections and then you can cut it off and add a new top shot several times..... Use a piece of 58 lb wire folded in half slide it down inside of the hollow spectra grab the solid braid and pull it back through and serve the end...... Now you are ready to make a knot less connection that is stronger than a bimini...... it will also go theough your guides better.....


On the bigger fish I would think you will want a longer top shot.... If not for you, out of respect for the deck hands and the other people on the boat.

When you are in a wide open big fish bite there will be tangles not if, but when..... the larger mono is real easy to untangle, and wont cut off someone's chance at a big fish..... I am not big on long topshots either, but I think it is the right thing on big gear..... the sardine can swim, you just work it a little.....

best connection for spectra(solid not hollow) to mono or fluoro is a good ol albright knot.

12 turn Bimini Twist on the spectra then 10 turn Yucatan knot on the Bimini loop is the strongest tied connection from spectra to mono according to a Sport Fishing Magazine in an article in 2006 that had testing results included.

Takes a little time to tie the Bimini but this combo will run through rod guides no sweat during a run by something trying to spool ya/headed for the horizon or, if your using short leaders, at the boat side when your trying to gaff the fish and it runs.

As I understand it many people tie the 12 turn bimini wrong.... 12 turns means you actually wrap the loop around your hand and twirl it 25-28 times.... Then when you add tension and run the line back down you end up with 12 turns up and 12 back down for a 12 turn bimini......

I found this knot on marinews.com and have been practicing it for a few days now!

If you use loop to loop make sure all 4 legs are equal length. Just a reminder
