Or............... add 50' of hollow to the ned of your spectra for top shot connections and then you can cut it off and add a new top shot several times..... Use a piece of 58 lb wire folded in half slide it down inside of the hollow spectra grab the solid braid and pull it back through and serve the end...... Now you are ready to make a knot less connection that is stronger than a bimini...... it will also go theough your guides better.....
On the bigger fish I would think you will want a longer top shot.... If not for you, out of respect for the deck hands and the other people on the boat.
When you are in a wide open big fish bite there will be tangles not if, but when..... the larger mono is real easy to untangle, and wont cut off someone's chance at a big fish..... I am not big on long topshots either, but I think it is the right thing on big gear..... the sardine can swim, you just work it a little.....
