To Jorge's family, Linda and the crew of the Red Rooster III, and his Friends.

We have lost a great person, who is now in a greater place. I have so many memories, for all the years I have been able to enjoy his company, meals, poker games and watching him fish. I always enjoyed his singing while in the galley. Andy Cates called him an ICON to the San Diego Long Range Fishing fleet, which he was.

He was always a gentleman and very gentle person. He was loved by all who met him.

I can remember him walking out of the house, with some trash or something, looking around at the action, borrowing a rod, catching a fish and then back to the galley.

May the Memory of Jorge Nicifore live on forever in all our hearts.

3 Large potatoes cut in cubes
1 can corn

2 cloves garlic
1 large onion diced
¾ teaspoon salt
1 bay leaf
¼ teaspoon pepper
4 cups half and half
¼ cup butter
¼ teaspoon dill
2 Cups water
2 pounds Wahoo Fillets cubed
½ cup white wine
1 tablespoon chopped cilantro

Combine water, wine, vegetables, spices and butter. Bring to a boil so that potatoes are ¾ cooked. Add Wahoo, cook 5 more minutes and add rue to thicken mixture for a chowder consistency.

Rue: ½ cup butter and ¼ cup flour: Melt butter and add flour to rue consistency.
Thanks Billy, ive been wanting this recipe forever, Jorge's wahoo chowder is soo good. Those cinnamon rolls. And who can forget watching jorge throw his wahoo jigs/bombs and hanging one at will.

You know I have one more story about him. We were fishing on the ridge and Jorge came out in usual fashion and made two casts, for one wahoo. The rest of us were just winding our arms off and he does this to us. BUT the best part of the story is his "scooter" ate the bomb right at the boat and he just said casually get the gaff, about ten winds later the fish is on the deck and he is doing his happy dance. He was something else. I asked him later about the dance and he said it was the "scooter stamp" I said scooter stamp and he stomped his feet, I said oh the scooter stomp and he started laughing and said the scooter stomp. Every time he saw me the next few days he said hey TOOOOPPPOOO the scooter stomp!

Its pretty cool how giddy he would get over a Hoo, even after working the boats for so long and catching so many. After watching him catch one you would think it was the first one he ever landed. He sure had the personality to get foks excited about fshing.

Great story bill. I remember fishing the islands several trips and Jorge would throw the jig and hook wahoo at will. Ive never seen anyone have that much confidence wahoo fishing. When the fish were around and biting it was automatic and he knew it. If it was tough he could still scrape one out.

I enjoyed staying up late and Jorge would show me how he tricked out his bombs. He was fond of the orange spinner blade on the bomb. The custom made Jorge wahoo feather was also deadly. Orange and yellow skirt with pink skirt on a jet head, comstock, often outfishing marauders even at Clarion. Listening to Jorge speak was great. He was always enthusiastic about fishing. He would give me verbal tips and i would listen.

Jorge had great taste in music too. Oldies, classic rock, beatles and a mixture of everything else. He didnt just listen to gringo music for our benefit either. Jorge knew the words to all the songs and loved to sing them in the galley.

How bout Sinatra music to his homemade Lasagna and Ceasar Salad (dressing from scratch). Happy memories.

I fished many many times on the RR3 and I used to charter out the whole boat for our group and Jorge was always the star and chief mischief maker. Each year, the group of guys would do a "group shot" along the stern rail. It was not like your typical group shot...guys will be guys...

Everyone would line up wearing nothing but their boots, rod belts and harnesses, sunglasses and hat and not much else. Basically a silly bunch of white butts posed along the rail. It was pretty funny and alot of beer was involved. 20 something naked goofs mugging for the camera!

Well, one year, everyone was lined up. The crew was snapping everyone's photos and cracking up. Well, out charges Jorge and Andy Cates with the water hoses and spraying us all down. Naked bodies were running and diving everywhere like white cockroaches scattering from the onslaught of water and Jorge was chasing guys up and down the rail with the full blast water hose. I can still hear him laughing his head off screaming, "Come to Jorge!" No one escaped. No one laughed harder.

I still have and use his wahoo bombs he made me over the years down here in La Paz. What a class guy and sweatheart of a gentleman. Que Dios te bendigas, amigo. Vaya con los angeles en el cielo y nos vemos pronto con los atun grandes y wahoos gigantes!

I kind of had a feeling last July when we let Jorge off in Ensenada that would be the last time I saw him. I sat with him a little while and he was in good spirits. I love Jorge and the RR111 has always been my boat. I'm crying now and if that makes me a wimp then thats what I am. I hope like hell that there is an afterlife and look forward to seeing Jorge again...this is a very sad time.

Fish on my brothers, this is an example of how fickle life is, enjoy it like Jorge did. I still have a hard time believing he is gone...Jeff

I fished with Jorge 15~20 trips.
It didn't matter what the weather was, how good/bad the fishing, whether there were mean drunks aboard, (they didn't stay that way for long after Jorge gave them "the talking to", and he could back it up, too)....whatever happened, he was always happy, especially when using games of "chance" (cards) to clean out the wallets of Julio and John Holste, which he did regularly.
His upbeat attitude was always contagious to Andy and the rest of us, every trip was better because he was there.
He'll be missed.
