RIP Jorge. He finally has a rod and reel in hand again, fishing the big pond in the sky.
You will be missed Jorge.

You know it really hits you sometimes how many good people there are out there. I never had the pleasure of meeting this man but feel a little richer just reading the stories. A man who touched people, raised kids and sent them to college, lived a good life and is so well remembered. Hats off to him and to all of you. May his family know what a wonderful person he was to so many that would be the greatest gift to them.

My Favorite Memory of Jorge is his incredible Wahoo Chowder: Jorge’s Wahoo Chowder 3 Large potatoes cut in cubes 1 can corn 1 cup diced celery 2 cloves garlic 1 large onion diced ¾ teaspoon salt 1 bay leaf ¼ teaspoon pepper 4 cups half and half ¼ cup butter ¼ teaspoon dill 2 Cups water 2 pounds Wahoo Fillets cubed ½ cup white wine 1 tablespoon chopped cilantro Combine water, wine, vegetables, spices and butter. Bring to a boil so that potatoes are ¾ cooked. Add Wahoo, cook 5 more minutes and add rue to thicken mixture for a chowder consistency. Rue: ½ cup butter and ¼ cup flour: Melt butter and add flour to rue consistency.

To Jorge's family, Linda and the crew of the Red Rooster III, and his Friends.
We have lost a great person, who is now in a greater place. I have so many memories, for all the years I have been able to enjoy his company, meals, poker games and watching him fish. I always enjoyed his singing while in the galley. Andy Cates called him an ICON to the San Diego Long Range Fishing fleet, which he was.
He was always a gentleman and very gentle person. He was loved by all who met him.
I can remember him walking out of the house, with some trash or something, looking around at the action, borrowing a rod, catching a fish and then back to the galley.
May the Memory of Jorge Nicifore live on forever in all our hearts.

You know I have one more story about him. We were fishing on the ridge and Jorge came out in usual fashion and made two casts, for one wahoo. The rest of us were just winding our arms off and he does this to us. BUT the best part of the story is his "scooter" ate the bomb right at the boat and he just said casually get the gaff, about ten winds later the fish is on the deck and he is doing his happy dance. He was something else. I asked him later about the dance and he said it was the "scooter stamp" I said scooter stamp and he stomped his feet, I said oh the scooter stomp and he started laughing and said the scooter stomp. Every time he saw me the next few days he said hey TOOOOPPPOOO the scooter stomp!

Its pretty cool how giddy he would get over a Hoo, even after working the boats for so long and catching so many. After watching him catch one you would think it was the first one he ever landed. He sure had the personality to get foks excited about fshing.

Great story bill. I remember fishing the islands several trips and Jorge would throw the jig and hook wahoo at will. Ive never seen anyone have that much confidence wahoo fishing. When the fish were around and biting it was automatic and he knew it. If it was tough he could still scrape one out.
I enjoyed staying up late and Jorge would show me how he tricked out his bombs. He was fond of the orange spinner blade on the bomb. The custom made Jorge wahoo feather was also deadly. Orange and yellow skirt with pink skirt on a jet head, comstock, often outfishing marauders even at Clarion. Listening to Jorge speak was great. He was always enthusiastic about fishing. He would give me verbal tips and i would listen.
Jorge had great taste in music too. Oldies, classic rock, beatles and a mixture of everything else. He didnt just listen to gringo music for our benefit either. Jorge knew the words to all the songs and loved to sing them in the galley.
