This is Nick Rizopoulos who is here fishing with his dad John showing off a nice dorado that was caught on the fly. Nick and his dad have caught many species this trip including dorado, bonita, rooster fish, lady fish, as well as jacks. They are not done fishing with me. We still have a couple of days of fishing left before they go back to Texas so we are going to see if we can’t get a few more species.

The fishing has started to pick up from what we saw last week. We are seeing very warm water temperatures that are on average about five to eight degrees warmer than normal for this time of year. This warmer water is providing good bait populations both inshore and off shore.
Inshore/beach - we are seeing good populations of sardina although they remain on the small side. The inshore and beach fishing for species such as small rooster fish, jack crevelle, lady fish, and pompano that are feeding on these small bait fish remains good. For those who are willing to stand on the beach in the heat and blazing sun looking for bigger rooster fish and jacks have a good chance of getting at least a few shots a day. I know of three anglers from Finland and who are with the Vision rod company and they traveled all the way down here just to fish the beach. They have spent the last ten days on the beach, fishing sun up to sun down and have had decent success. They have caught a handful of nice roosters with the biggest coming in at about twenty pounds along with many smaller rooster fish. They are also catching as many lady fish as one could want and have had other species including pompano, mexican look down, pargo, crevelle, and cabrilla.
Offshore - We continue to see decent populations of dorado. We are seeing larger singles as well as some decent schools providing action for the fly anglers. Along with the dorado we have very good action for bonita. Most of these fish have bee on the larger side with some of them reaching fifteen pounds. We have even had a few nice tuna mixed in with the bonita at times. Most of the tuna are still associated with the porpoise that we have in the area. Most of the tuna have been football size but we have some larger tuna in the area. I have heard of a few large tuna between one hundred and two hundred pounds being caught on conventional tackle.
Fishing for bill fish we continue to see good fishing for sail fish and blue marlin. I was out yesterday and we raised three small blues but no hook ups on the fly. We have a very few stripe marlin in the area as I think the water is just to warm for them. We will see an increase in stripe marlin as the water starts to cool down but that will be a few weeks from now so we will just have to have fun with the sail fish and blues on the fly.
I will continue fishing this week so I will let you all know how things are progressing. Until then, good fishing.
