And I thought heroin was an expensive habit...

I posted earlier asking about the TLD of fly reels and got some really good info from you guys. I ended up getting a Redington CDL 7/8 and am very pleased so far. I just wish I got it a little earlier. I just bought a new WF 8wt fast sinking line to replace my old floating line, but my little okuma sierra shredded it to the braid about 15ft from the leader before I transfered it to the new reel.
Once I get the damaged line outside the rod its not to bad as far as casting goes, but when I'm stripping line all day it picks up sand and carves a nice little groove in my finger. Is the line trash? Can it be fixed some how? Should I just wear Flex-rap? I assume your responses will bring me to my next question: whats your favorite line for long distance casts in the bays and surf? 8wt, I heard a 250grm line might cast a little better than the 300 I have now. I'm mainly fishing for bass and halibut from shore but I fish for just about everything that swims.

I fish warm water, what works for me might not work for you. Experiment, and have fun figuring things out. I do have a recipe for incredible distance if that's your thing.
-Here's what I keep on my 8wt inlet/surf rod.
- 15-20ft of Rio T-14 ( alot of places sell it by the foot, very cheap )
- Use the loop to loop connection of your choice to join the T-14 to 125ft of 20lb amnesia running line. ( I go light, rarely using more than 12lb tippet )
- Watch out for joggers.

a 300 grain integrated shooting line is just right for an 8wt. I have a redington cd 9/10 that I use on my 8wt (more backing capacity) and I love it I have landed a 4'8"+ Leopard shark with it. So good choice on the reel. what did you give for it ?

BBR, 250 is about the lightest I would go with an 8 wt. 300 should be just right. Personally, I prefer a line with the sinking line built into it, not one that you add on like LC13. You will find that it cast better, easier on your hands and does not have the hinge effect when you cast it. I just got one from SI anglers for about $45.00...
