Quick question,. . It's an easy one. Do I have to use color preserver on Gudebrod HT metallic thread? Maybe extra cp? It's my first custom and I want to do it right.
Depending on the CP, the metallic may lose some of it's "sparkle/luster". A lot of people CP underwraps no matter what thread is used, because they find it easier to over wrap on w/o getting gaps. Others do it because they have problems with air escaping from their wraps and causing bubbles in their finish. The CP is thinner and releases the bubbles more easily, then everything is "sealed" before applying finish.

Re: color preserver?
I just noticed the avatar(Mark) . Did you take that shot when you picked me up for the trip last year?
On the CP issue. Not you dont have to use it. I do because it helps prevent pesky bubbles. May dampen the metallics a little but the sun still makes it sparkle.
I'm a little dissapointed that it took you so long to catch that. I came across it when cleaning off a camera card the other day (from that trip), thought of you, put it up and have been patiently waiting for you to catch it. lol
Not exactly "PC" for a guy in a retail business. Colleen walked past and saw it on the screen the other night (I had a thread up) chuckled, looked at it closer, then went "IS THAT YOU!?!?!?" with this pissed off look on her face. lol Gotta change that now that you've seen it.
I just finished my very first under-wrap too.with 3 HT Silver metallic inlays, coated it good with flex coat preserver, 15 min, later and they shine like a new quarter,,I can't tell the difference in this light. Looks good.
