Report on latest project. Rainshadow RCLB80L
Well I am back from Baja (obviously - duh!!!) and it was quite the trip. If you want the story on the whole trip just drop me an email and I would be glad to share it with you.
The new Rainshadow I posted before leaving really went far beyond all expectations. Got dorado/mahi mahi on the iron which it threw it out of site. Used it for vertical jigging for yellowtail but they didnt cooperate but some cabria did. Then I decided to slap a 100lb leader on it , 30lb main, a small Tiburon Smart Shift reel and throw mackerel on Striped Marlin and Mako Sharks. The Striper made it less than 10 minutes and the Shark didnt fair much better. If any of you are into the aforementioned techniques, I can only tell you to give this beauty a shot. I have a feeling I will be doing a lot more R&D on their products. I really loved the guides too and believe me I will be looking over their stuff come April in Woodland. It is kind nice being able to look into new stuff now with some time one my hands.
Doc,
Did you find the 8 ft rod easy enough to handle from a boat?
I've been looking at the RCLB70M for throwing large poppers at GT's and other toothy critters?
Did the light action 8ft handle the beaky without turning inside out?
Now I'm not sure if the medium action might be too heavy.

Owen It handled everything beautifully. We have a 17' Center console and of course I always take way too many rods and the extra foot allow me to keep clear of every thing during the swing of the cast. I would feel confident throwing gear that might be up to 10 oz.(sorry dont know metric) and maybe more. Both the Marlin and Mako were tossed 10-11" mackerel with this baby and if really put the bait out there. Neither lasted over 10 minutes(have it all on Video) and they basically fought on the surface. A GT or Tuna might sound more and 8' might be a little more problematic but I doubt it. I am not normally found of sticks over 7 foot but the 8 footers now has a home.
