Air bubles on color preserver

How your guys deal with air bubbles on the color preserver? every time i do a butt wrap i alway get air bubbles i try to get rid of some when see them while the rod is drying and the ones that pop out later i just rub them off when the color preserved is dry i am using gubrod 811 full strength do guys thin down a little or use it full straight.

Re: Air bubles on color preserver

I haven't used the new 811 so don't know what to tell you there. With the old stuff I wet the area of the bubbles with alcohol on a brush to smooth it out and applied another coat of 811 after the alcohol dried. I use Diamondite CP now with good results though you should test it on the thread you intend to use, as it may darken the thread more than you would like.

Re: Air bubles on color preserver

Only way to get bubbles is to apply too much. I apply a heavy coat, and wick off the excess. I use a brush. EVERY time I dip the brush to get more CP, I make sure I wick the brush on a paper towel, this way I am not applying FOAM. ONce I start wicking the excess off, I once again wick it off on teh paper towel. On Dec Wraps, if you see foam appearing, try brushing the same direction teh threads are laid down, this usually scoops up the foam.

I'm assuming what you are calling bubbles is what I'm referring to as foam? Maybe a better word is froth?

Re: Air bubles on color preserver

I soak my buttwraps with the white flexcoat cp, let it sit for a few minutes to soak in, then pat it with a clean cloth till I see no more white but its still wet. Let it dry and coat, never even seen any bubbles much less are they a problem. About the only time i use cp anymore.
