I need to put the finishing touches on this rod but I thought I'd show it.
I built the handle from cork rings and added red burl cork ring accents. I filled it with a red oak filler from Elmers. After looking at the handle in the pictures I plan on going back and resanding the grip again.
I used Gudebrod NCP 'C' Garnet, Gunmetal Grey and Dark Brown on a brown Seeker Inshore CBW 809 (Blue Lightning Series).
The guides are Alps with the TiCo finish and the reel seat is a Fuji trigger seat.
Somehow I lost the butt cap this morning and I spent the last 30 minutes looking for it with no luck. How do I lose a butt cap?

Mike,
I made the cork handle from cork rings but if you were to use preformed cork grips you have to ream them out the same way. You can use a drill with a special bit but you will have to ream them out at some point.
Guy,
Thanks. I am really enjoying building rods and I am getting some great ideas from other rod wrappers' work. I just wish I had more time and money to build more. I like the classic rods and I try to incorporate patterns that catch my eye from odd sources... t-shirts, product packaging, etc.

Yes, the rings need to be reamed to fit the blank. Cork rings can be glued up right on the blank and turned after the glue has dried or built up on a mandrel, turned and fitted to the blank by reaming.

Guadalupe,
Thanks, I have been doing the same with some of the rods I didn't build myself. I figure I will eventually get rid of anything I didn't build myself. Although the new Super Seekers are nice and I have a couple of those.
I would like to try a fancy butt wrap but I haven't had time to do the research or the planning, maybe later this year.
Doug,
Eventually I would like to build rods for others. I'm just developing my skills so I can build a quality product.
Jose

Try Mark at Acid Rod and see if he has a copy of Billy's book on Cross Wraps. It will be well worth your time.
If you want to weave, Doc Ski has a good video/CD. I have just finished a book on weaving, but haven't found an outfit to print it for a reasonable price yet.
