a day at Batson Enterprises/Rainshadow Rods

Thought i'd share a few picks of my trip to Sequim Wa. The Batson family are the most warm and giving family who support so many in the industry. I was suprised to find out who they help. Utmost and Batson Industries have my vote!

i toured both warehouses day-batson-enterprises-rainshadow-rods-warehouse.jpg

and later Bill took me crabbin'day-batson-enterprises-rainshadow-rods-headingout1-1.jpg.day-batson-enterprises-rainshadow-rods-3menandcrab1a.jpg

cooked 'em up.day-batson-enterprises-rainshadow-rods-cookingcrab1a.jpg day-batson-enterprises-rainshadow-rods-crabsinpot.jpg

finally we ended with a crabfest 'n beer!

here's bill hard at work.day-batson-enterprises-rainshadow-rods-bill-work.jpg

Are those Dungeness crabs? They have them live in fishtanks here in Chinatown (NY). We use crabs which are VERY similar to those just quite a bit smaller for bait...as a result I could never eat them.

Cool that they allowd you to tour teh factory.

A lot of people have never heard of the name Batson. I own a few of their Rainshadow blanks and I love them. I've let a few buddies fish them and now they all own their own. Cool family and great blanks.

they sure are! and we got 'em from Dungeness Bay. they were in 10' of water. while waiting for the pots, we actually dropped a baited hook to watch 'em crawl on and we'd bring 'em up!

Re: a day at Batson Enterprises/Rainshadow Rods

Good stuff! Batson built a LITE 7/8 spey blank that Scott Throop wrapped into a custom stick for me that is awesome. It's been posted here before, so won't rehash, but it's been a proven killer. Great products, and even better people! I hope to have Scott wrap two more custom fly sticks to take to Chile in January, though he's been hard to reach. BUT, damn I hate you. After moving from Nor CA to NE 6 years ago, the one thing that I REALLY miss, and MOST ENJOY when I return to vist family, is dungies! New Englanders think lobster is the better crustacean, but we know better! Dungies, then blue/soft shells, then spiny's and then NE Lobster!! Don't ask about crawfish, they are another game altogether!!
