I want to build myself a set of new kingfish rods for slow trolling and livebaiting during the kingfish season. I know what components I want but I am not sure on the best blank for the application. I need a 15-30 pound class blank in the 7' or 7'6 size. It needs to have a light enough tip to let the baits swim freely and no pull the treble hooks but it must have backbone too, a fast action blank would be best. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!!!!
good to see you here man. im getting ready for the fall kingfish season as well. i'll be going with the calstar 700m. if i ever catch you at the skyway i have an 800m for a grouper rod that i can show you. it'll give you an idea of how fast the tip is.
The best Kingfish blanks I have found were the Cape Fear Live Bait Kingfish which became the Man O War Kingfish blanks. They are in bewteen the Live Bait LT and Live Bait 70 - and are perfect. Not sure if you can find any now. I dread when one of mine breaks.
I would probably replace them with one of the lighter 7' GUSA blanks or a Shikari.
