| 3D tiger wrap... interesting side effect..
Playing around with Scott's tiger wrap. Did the first layer as suggested in his article.... black and a light blue/grey inlay thread. Burnished it like crazy in all different directions. So far, normal.
Took this pic..
and this one...
It already looks like one can see the swirls and burnishing effects.
Now for the strange part... Put on a coat of Aftcoat, and took pics. when I viewed them, the thread looks totally psychadelic... reminded me of the 70's. Not sure if it will show here, but when in the camera's viewfinder and when I uploaded them to the computer, the wrap appeared in colors... lots of colors! Not sure why this happened... I'm guessing some sort of light refraction. Anyone experience this?? Scott?
ANYWAY, can't wait to finish the wrap tomorrow!

I am sure his technique is going to really help a lot of wrappers dress up their gear. I have about another dozen wraps in the works now with variations off his theme.
Cant wait to see Bushmans final product. What size thread did you use?

Am I missing something? Looks like Moire` to me (an artifact of low res digital photography).

Doc...I did it in "A" thread... planning on the second layer tonight... should be interesting....
Dennis...It was strange, the "colors" mostly showed up on my camera viewfinder, and on my screen. I took the shots with a 6 meg camera, at high resolution. It seems to have lost some effect of the colors when I uploaded and shrunk them to 800 x 600. Go figure!

Ken, what you are seeing is the moire effect, the same effect that produces the tiger wrap. Basically what is happening is, at different resolutions, the pixels are alligning with the immage....basically doing what the top layer of thread will do. Not everyone looking at the pics will see the same thing you are seeing. People with different resolution settings on their monitors, LCD vs CRT screens...will all see something different. Although it looks cool on rods, its a digital photographers worst nightmare sometimes.
cisurfer, yes Mike is very good. Hes the best student and former employee I've ever had, and a good freind. I taught him almost everything I know, including my Tiger Wrap. |

Scott, thanks for the explanation... The tiger wrap turned out well (colors and patterns reminded me of my last wahoo). I'll post pics in the AM.
Mike, that is some beautiful work there. I can't wait to play around and experiment with the technique. Looks like the possibilities are endless! Looks like your work has a lot of Scott's influence (stylistically speaking). Lucky guy to have learned from one of the best! Post some more pics when you have time!
