Re: one piece cut to make a two piece?

I'm not sure if this is what you are after, but here's what I did.
I made an 800M into a travel jig stick by using a varmac locking ferrule and cutting the blank about 31" from the butt. I put cork tape/xtube on for a handle and built it right up to the threads on the ferrule, so most of the ferrule was covered by the handle. This rod fishes like any other 800M and the only noticable difference is the weight added by the ferrule. I'm thinking of doing the same to an ulua.
The ferrules can be hard to find but I bet squidco would have some.

I have seen some of Don's work from Don's Bait and Tackle on a Cal Star 270H-8, he mades it into a two piece. He did this by putting two metal sleeves at the break that screw into eachother

Most any shop that does custom work should be able to do it for you. It sounds like the shop JTAP mentioned would know what you want. I think the hardest part might be finding the ferrule, as Varmac went out of business. Once you find one that will fit where you want the break (use a caliper), the installation is pretty straightforward, use masking tape and epoxy. Taking a hacksaw to a perfectly good blank feels kinda sketchy though....

Here are a couple of pics.
