Adding Name to Rod?

I have quite a few rods without my name on them. Usualy identify with a piece of tape. What are some of the ways to permanantly add you name to a completed rod?

Similar question was brought up on another post.

Thanks for any ideas

Re: Adding Name to Rod?

Pull off the rubber gut plug and place one of your business cards in the hollow rod. This a good fix for that "On Boat Mistake" as when the other guy has your stick and is insisting that it his.

Most of my rods are custom with my colors and name, and I have Pete(my rod builder) put a 1inch line of my color on sticks that I bought off the rack.

Learned long ago, don't make them too pretty or some ASSHOLE will think he just has to have them.JMHO

Re: Adding Name to Rod?

Fancy and expensive, have a custom rod builder weave your name or initials on your rods.
Plain and cheap, buy a label maker that uses a clear tape with black or gold lettering, after the labels are applied, mask off that area and coat with a clear finish of something that drys clear and fast so you don't have to turn it. A rod builder would coat it with rod finish but that requires a rotating dryer so the finish doesn't sag prior to setting up.
5 minute epoxy can be brushed on clear over the label and will setup very fast-can be got any most fishing tackle stores that sell custom rods or componets.
Really cheap, write your name on clear tape like scotch with a sharpie, tape to rod and coat as above. I know a custom rod builder that does all his rods that way.
This is a classic case of you get what you pay for.....

Re: Adding Name to Rod?

I might be convinced to do your name on a label and a good rod builders epoxy job for a case of beer or two, depending on how may rods you are talking about. I could add some color, decorative wrap around it too, if you want. But for the super bitchin, fancy weave jobs, you better go see rodblder. This is really only limited by your imagination.

Re: Adding Name to Rod?

Take em all over to your favorite tackle store and have them put your name on em and flexcoat over.

A couple I would use in our area are Glenn's tackle in Costa Mesa....Fishermans Hardware in Huntington Beach.

Re: Adding Name to Rod?

Easiest and cheapest way is to use a gel pen Brandon. Just clean the blank, right your name, nickname, boatname or whatever, let it dry for a few and then flex coat over and let that dry and your done. Many gel pen colors to match your wraps as well.

Keep in mind if you should use a Gel-Pen
Let the gel ink dry COMPLETLY.
Then spray over your lettering with a clear coat
I use Testors gloss coat or try Krylon Clear Coat

This will prevent smearing of your ink when you apply Flex Coat
over the inscription.

Also you can use a Pilot brand gold or silver marker.
The ink in these pens is lot more smear proof
and you may get away without using an fixitive at all.

Hope this helps

Re: Adding Name to Rod?

I also lightly brush a thin layer of sealer/preserver over the ink before flexcoating.
