Guide strength question

I just flew back in fourth PV with my rods packed in ABS tube.

Lost three guides on three of six rods. :104167739 Two perfections and one heavy fuji silcon carbide.

Since I'll be doing some replacements what guides do you think hold up to abuse best and why do you think they do.

Thanks in advance, Jim

Re: Guide strength question

I think the Pac bay heavy chrome "boat guides" hold up best. I have those black varmac's, look real nice and are light, but have popped off lots of them. I tried the braced ones. Same thing. My keyring has them on it...

Re: Guide strength question

If yer poppin' rings off of Perfections ya might wanna also have a look at yer packin' technique. Maybe a bigger tube & some towels wrapped around dur rods. Or two tubes, same rods, more padding.

Who are the gorillas handling yer stuff, anyway? Same ones from the Samsonite commercial?

Re: Guide strength question

Hey Jim!

Use either the Perfection or the Pacific Bay braced stainless guides. Those are what I've been recomending to and wrapping for my customers on any stick for 30-60lb. line for travel, panga, or long range rods for some time. very durable and low maintenance!
