Perfection Guides

Black Perfection Guides is it common for some of the finish to come off the guides. A few of mine the finish is coming off, rather new.

Thanks

Re: Perfection Guides

Yup, the coating tended to wear off pretty easily on the old black Perfections and as I understand is why they stopped making them (I heard a little rumor that they were coming back but have yet to see them). If you're ever in Gardena, drop in to Yo's and ask Martin about the black "Batson" guides he stocks. The color does not wear off and they look great too (shinier black color, not gunmetal). I've used them on quite a few rods without the fading issues.

Good luck!

Re: Perfection Guides

so are they stainless with paint on them ? an earlier post had a custom rod for sale and it looked like the guides were porcelain (?) is that true, or are they painted / baked on, with stainless under ...... stainless just seem to be so much more abuse worthy, especially if you're trailering, fishing baja, party boating etc. what's the quotes guys ?

Ditto. I put a set of the black Perfections on an old Sabre a few years ago & started seeing rust in the crannies after only about a season. And yes, I wash my stuff...

Won't be using THOSE anymore.

Haven't used them myself but hear good things from the pros about the black PacBay in that style. Price is right, too.

They are stainless with (supposedly) Titanium Carbon Nitride (SP?) coating. Even the silver SS have a hard chrome plating. They're putting some interesting finishes on guides lately. My current fave for lighter sticks is the PacBay LCTNG. Silver frame with gold TiN coating on a cubic zirconia ring. Got a couple good seasons on my 20# bait stick with no corrosion or discoloration issues at all.

If the guides you refer to are silver frame with gray metal rings they are probly what we used to call "Carbaloy." Carbide alloy rings on a SS frame. Good stuff, very pricey. You can still get them through Mudhole.com

And yes, you just can't beat the old style SS guides for bang-'em-up durability.

Not affiliated with anyone, btw....

Re: Perfection Guides

Yup, those are probably the same ones. The Perfections looked powdery, whereas the Batson guides were shiny. You should see the regular chrome guides...makes the Perfections look ultra dull. Anyway, don't know if the color is plated, sprayed, baked in or what, but from what Martin told me, and as far as I've used them, they're very durable and can take the abuse as much as any other ss guide. Give him a call at the shop and ask about them.

Re: Perfection Guides

Try the CXBBG's or CXBG's. Their finish won't come off.

Brad,

They could be those Varmac's which are absolutely horrible..

On the CXBG's be careful you get a set that matches.
