Question How to size a reel seat?

Hey there I just stripped an old rod of mine and was wondering how to size the blank so I can order the right reel seat?

Take a measurement of the blank's diameter at the back of where the seat will sit against the rear grip. That measurement is your answer... Rarely will there be a real seat size the fits right on the nose, so you simply go up to the next largest size and build a bushing to take up the difference in diameter. Seats are generally called out in mm's. IE: A size 22 seat is 22mm I.D. Notice I said GENERALLY.. Always check the seat's I.D. spec to make sure.

If you don't have a caliper or something to measure it in mm's, measure it with what ever you've got and post the measurement here. Myself or one of the others will tell you what size seat you need.

Ok thank, that's what I thought but I needed the info of the experts on here. I measured it and it was 20.49 mm so I would go with a 22 seat right?

Yup

Again, check the seat's actual spec'd I.D. For example a Fuji DPSH22 is 20mm I.D. Just to keep things fun...

When sizes are close, measure at the rear of where the seat will go. Blank is wider there afterall. When you get within .5mm of a nominal size, then you might need a hands on test fit or measurement. Some seats say they are 20mm, for example, but are actually a tad smaller.

Some people like a certain size for how it feels in the hand, especially on thinner freshwater and spinning rods. So in that case you can end up with a larger size than what the blank measurement reads, and then you shim it.
