Does cutting butt increase or decrease line weight?

If I have an 8' rod rated 15-40 (cork tape jig stick), What would taking 2" from the butt do to it's rating?

It would lower the line rating a tad, make the rod rate a bit slower, and increase the fighting leverage a bit. 2" off the butt of an 8' is not gonna make much difference tho.

nothing to the line rating, but it will change where the rod shuts off

Rid Butt

I have a 11'9" rod that used to be 12' before I mangled the butt and cut off 3".

I don't think that it affected the line rating, per se; but did change the 'feel' of the rod.

I moved everything including reel seat and guides up 3" to accommodate the shortening of the butt.

Shortening the butt without changing the position of yhe seat and guides, which is what I think you're asking about, won't affect the line rating for the rod. JMHO.C2

X 2

more than 2" needed before you will notice any significant difference.
