I will pick up from where I left the rod last time--with one exception. I did not like the style of guide that I wrapped on for the striper (1st) guide, so I cut it off. I would not normally do this, as each customer's rod has a work order that lists every part, including the guide make, style and size.
But since this rod is for a friend, I view the rod project as fluid, and if I have a new, or better idea, I will go with it.
This is a fancy way of saying that I am way behind on this rod, and it will take more time.

You know that phosphorescent green glow stuff in the water when you fish the breakwater (or offshore)? I wanted to put something on the rod that captured this "glow", and failed miserably.
Actually it looks quite kewl. This paint is like ten bucks for tiny 4ml bottle, but it is the best for rod building I have found.

I was going for the combi "Radio-active, Haz-mat" look around the logos.
I could not capture the green toxic look on my camera, but it is where it needs to be.

Full darkness green toxic hazmat glow...

I pull off the Fuji stickers on my reel seats, and save them to be used as templates for abalone/shell reel seat inserts.

My ever dwindling circa 1970's shell inlays...

I stick the Fuji sticker on the veneer, and then carefully crack the s**t out of it with scissors, and have to start again. A pointed Exaco razor knife is the way to go...

The key to these inlays is making sure that the veneer fits exactly in the extended oval sticker space on the reel seat. If they edges are not perfectly flush--sticking up even just a bit is a no go.

When I am satisfied it fits properly, I coat over the top with two layers of epoxy, and knock on teak, have not had one pop out yet.
True, you can not see this after you mount your reel, but it is nice to know you have it. Kinda like nuclear warheads.

Gimme an "S"....
Since this rod is for the professional skater "SBK", the rod needs to clearly say this.
I bought these tiny 3D letters at the 99 Cent (100 yen store here), and have been using them for quite a while with no problems.

I will put two coats of epoxy over the letters, to give them "depth".

The rod is being built with lots of love, "G-Style" 'fo sure.
'Cause that's just how I roll.
Until next mishap...
