Thanks agian. Rich
Search for CKW in this rod building forum. Cappie has been using it frequently for some time now as decor. Last couple rods I put up is a covered variant using it for grips.
Was called a BDSM wrap for a little bit as well, but changed that after I got a few private complaints from people of a more Puritan disposition.

Ok Dave just do a tutorial on here. Or if you already did put a link to it.

I guess the board search software was set-up to not enable 3 letter searches. A search for 'CKW' and 'Bloodydecks' together on Yahoo finds the threads just fine.
Anyway, basically it is a 2 layer effect. like a Tiger Wrap. A Tiger Wrap is pure moire in effect, however, while the CKW is moire plus lensing.

In Short:
Lay down 2 or more different threads for the bottom wrap as if doing a Tiger Wrap. Mess them about (burnish),, or not. Then wrap mono over in the opposite direction (you can try the same direction too, which will sometimes work as well). Try different mono diameters to find the effect you like.
Want to play with the pattern some more? Then unwrap the mono and mess with the threads again.
Once happy with it, unwrap the mono and give the thread a coat of CP if you like. Then cover with a thin coat of clear adhesive (CaptG is mostly using epoxy, I'm using auto clearcoat) and wrap the mono into the wet adhesive. Wipe the top surface off, since any seepage of the adhesive to the top will erase the effect. Check for seepage a few times before the adhesive sets up.
Basically, that's it. A myriad of variants are possible

... and BTW, even if you are doing a straight-up tiger, the mono comes in handy. Wondering what your pattern will look like on a particular tiger? Temporarily wrapping the bottom layer with mono will give you a clue. Try with a mono diameter equal to the sum of the thread diameters you plan to wrap over the top, including the sacrificial(s).

Can you teach me how to properly cradle a snook--the last one I caught cut the s**t out of me with it's razor gills.

続いて (Continued, Part 2)

I will pick up from where I left the rod last time--with one exception. I did not like the style of guide that I wrapped on for the striper (1st) guide, so I cut it off. I would not normally do this, as each customer's rod has a work order that lists every part, including the guide make, style and size.
But since this rod is for a friend, I view the rod project as fluid, and if I have a new, or better idea, I will go with it.
This is a fancy way of saying that I am way behind on this rod, and it will take more time.

You know that phosphorescent green glow stuff in the water when you fish the breakwater (or offshore)? I wanted to put something on the rod that captured this "glow", and failed miserably.
Actually it looks quite kewl. This paint is like ten bucks for tiny 4ml bottle, but it is the best for rod building I have found.

I was going for the combi "Radio-active, Haz-mat" look around the logos.
I could not capture the green toxic look on my camera, but it is where it needs to be.

Full darkness green toxic hazmat glow...

I pull off the Fuji stickers on my reel seats, and save them to be used as templates for abalone/shell reel seat inserts.

My ever dwindling circa 1970's shell inlays...

What goes into a premium calico/swimbait rod?-dsc00494.jpg
I stick the Fuji sticker on the veneer, and then carefully crack the s**t out of it with scissors, and have to start again. A pointed Exaco razor knife is the way to go...

The key to these inlays is making sure that the veneer fits exactly in the extended oval sticker space on the reel seat. If they edges are not perfectly flush--sticking up even just a bit is a no go.

When I am satisfied it fits properly, I coat over the top with two layers of epoxy, and knock on teak, have not had one pop out yet.
True, you can not see this after you mount your reel, but it is nice to know you have it. Kinda like nuclear warheads.

Gimme an "S"....

Since this rod is for the professional skater "SBK", the rod needs to clearly say this.
I bought these tiny 3D letters at the 99 Cent (100 yen store here), and have been using them for quite a while with no problems.

I will put two coats of epoxy over the letters, to give them "depth".

The rod is being built with lots of love, "G-Style" 'fo sure.
'Cause that's just how I roll.

Until next mishap...
