my customers will order a rod, and the second, or third will be the same, or very similar colors for the thread, and reels seats.
Or I will see someone go from bright colors (reds, purples) to something more subtle, black on black.
The first two rods I made for this customer were our "shop custom" colors, black main wraps, with a little gold accent on two swimbait rods.
The next rod I made for him was black, on black, which is my personal choice for that past 30 years, on a 7.4 foot swimbait rod.
Then I made a metallic purple and black swimbait rod for him.

He went back to conservative, with a 7 foot spinner, that had burgandy main wraps, with a micro (3 strands) silver end cap.
Then he went pink on me. Pink and Silver CKW, with some skully.

He wanted the rod logo pink, and the spec logo silver, which is fine, but he wanted it over a pink and black T-wrap (Throop Wrap). I have to admit, I had to re do this again, as my first attempt looked great with the silver logo, but I could not see the pink one very well.
So, I did a pink, silver and black base/shade, in size A, and then a second layer of black only. It came out fairly sweet. He wanted a more "linear" than "wavy" T-wrap for the logo underwraps; I think I burnished it a little too much, as the part on the other side of the rod is has a little too much "wavy curve" to it.

These MNST top guides came out (here anyway) in 1999, and up until now I have put them mostly on spinning rods.
Recently, for the past two years, I have had quite a few requests for this tip on bait casting rods as well. Perhaps this is due to the release of the MGST (the same, except no wrap on foot) three years ago?
I put them on several of my rods, and it really does seem to reduce "tit rash" (Tip Wrap).

Finally, some WIP--ザ。ワイン竿 (the Wine Rod).
This customer wanted a rod that looked like the kind of wine he drinks.
Anyway, he says the colors are spot on, so I have that going for me.
Which is nice.
BTW
The above pic of the CKW is after one coat of epoxy on the end caps.
The below pic shows the black thread that I wrap over the epoxy end caps, and then coat two more times.
I think it would be easier to rip off a double wrapped guide that tear this suckah apart

That is fake cork EVA by the way, and feels supah-terrific!
