Grip Length

I have two custom wrapped Calstar 700H's. These two rods are very close in construction but one of them has a 15.5" forgrip while the other only has a 12" grip. How will these differ in use? The one with the 15.5" is a new rod.

IMO, it shouldn't make a difference as long as the longer foregrip doesn't interfere with the line when the rod is loaded. Other than that, you may get a little more lifting leverage with the longer foregrip

I'm guessing you'll be fish'n 50#-60# string on thoses? At some point during the fight you may want to lay that thing on the rail, 12" grip ain't gonna cut it. Awesome blank, by the way.

Really depends on the total front and rear grip length as a whole and where your comfortable reach is. As for laying a 700H on the rail, again, its not just the foregrip length, but the length of both, and exactly where the fulcrum point will be on the blank. Keep in mind the farther up the blank the rail-rest/gripping point is..the smaller the diameter of the blank. I would be a bit leary of laying a 700H on the rail past 30 inches from the butt using more than 40# line class. It could probably handle it, but would be a painful way to find out if it doesnt!
