| ???baja boomer, #2 unibutt???
Hi,
I'm new to the site and am planning on having a rod built soon (for jewfish, and some land based sharking.) So, I want to use a baja boomer as the blank, trim off 6" (to make it a "short stroker"), and I'd like to know If I can possibly fit the blank into a size #2 butt, or if I have to use the #4.
p.s. I plan to use a 12/0 senator on this reel, and may get either an avet or shimano tiagra 30w for christmas, too.

You'd have to take more like 18" off the back to get it into a #2 without grinding the blank. A #2 butt is a .875" I.D. and .875" O.D. on that blank's taper is 18.5" from the butt.
A #4 has a 1" I.D. ferrule and a Boomer is 1.07" @ 6" from the butt. Cut it 6", and "massage" the cut edge of the blank with a little 120G sandpaper and you're in.

The reel may not fit a #2 is the only ? I have here. As far as the rod it sounds great.

Use a caliper to take a ID of the #2 ferrule & use that to measure the OD of the blank..
It makes a nice rod.....I also think you need to go with a 50w with that blank..The Avet is real nice.....

This is how much I had to take down..I cut about 10" off the butt...
A penn 80 & a shimano 80 fit the #2 butt..I know nothing about a 12/0 its a reel I would never use..
What the other guys are doing is way out of my class of fishing.. A 300lb is a very large grouper were I fish.....and I would never fish a boomer..The GF700XH is more than enough for the fishing I do..
These Boomer's were made for tuna .....

Thanks for the replys,
nice rods capt richie
that's a nice jewfish too, reelumin-you do a lot of shark fishing? I'm on the west coast, and the winds recently have been making the beach too rough to fish...
Also, would the boomer jr. (50-100lb) be more suitable for how I want to use it (100lb mono, 400lb wind on)... I'm thinking about using the rsg's for guides, but heard that production of them has been stopped? Finally, what's everyone's opinion about perfection reel seats and gimbals? would the largest size seat fit my 12/0?
Thanks
