Hmmmm... I wouldn't trust it that far. Not even 1/2 that far. For an 80# rod, I would think you want a guide to stay put with 40-50# on it. Basically I'm calc'ing that number from a 25-30% drag setting, multiplied by 2 (for the max load that would ever occur on the rod at that drag setting), and then adding the very safe (and irrational) premise that all that load fell onto a single guide.
Even backing off the 2X number to a still quite conservative 1X though, would you trust the glue-only route for a guide with 20-25# on it, and perhaps twisting from torque as on a conventional setup? Given the cost of the trips for folks where you use such tackle, it seems pretty prudent to build overly strong,,, rather than to invite Mr Murphy around for tea. If something is going to break, let it be the blank, rather than your own handiwork.
